Because we all secretly want to find God…
As human beings we all come to the point of finding that we are missing something. It is described by philosophers as ‘the absence of merit for our existence’…and by some young believers in Jesus “A God shaped hole deep within us that we want filled”. Whatever you have thought, whatever you have heard, if you have been emotionally hurt by zealots or selfish ‘Christians’ or people who just didn’t really get the plot? All that doesn’t matter RIGHT NOW! You are seeking for that ‘Something’ and that ‘Something’ has been Jesus all along. This book will take you on the Odessa that is the personal quest for meaning and significance in your own life. This book helps you step out of the shadows of your hurt and offense…even anger at people and situations past into the warm light of a future free of the anguish of trying to please other people or requiring THEM to life up to YOUR Standards.Being imperfect….surrounded by imperfect folk….requires that we forgive their imperfections and Pursue God for be forgiven for ours…our imperfections of course….but the rest of it…lies, sexual impurity, gossip, slander, anger…(only you and God know what is going on in you and that is WHY you need Him!).Get this book…but not if you are just hoping for a ‘one and done’ feel good process. That’s not what this is. This is a new lifestyle a SEEKING JESUS…the One Who loved us enough to actually offer (and actually follow through) to taking on God’s required Punishment for OUR wrongdoing! That’s how it works. It’s really just that simple. God offers to restore the perfect and close relationship in which we can pursue and enjoy His daily presence…have Him around us throughout everyday and for us to enjoy spending time with Him in prayer and getting to know His own word that He gave to those who came before us…so that we would have a written revelation of Who God is!God is not complex. “Seek First God…His Kingdom…(that’s all the people He has forgiven an all of the promises that He has made to us personally)..and all ‘these things’ (the blessings and promises in the Bible) will be given to you” -Matthew 6:33. This ‘Jesus thing’ is really simple. Ask Him to show you His love. Spend time in quiet talking to Him (prayer), read His ‘love letter’ to us (the Bible) and become convinced that He loves you enough to change your life forever! Because that’s how long He wants to hang out with us…His creation!Buy the book….Pursue Jesus….it’s the best last thing you will EVER do for yourself that will change everything for good!

Spiritual Receptivity
In all of my years growing up as a "conservative evangelical"... I heard of A.W. Tozer quite often, but I have just now stopped to read my first Tozer book. After reading Tozer's "The Pursuit of God: The Human Thirst for the Divine", I can't help but wonder if all those preachers and teachers were speaking of another A.W. Tozer. I keep thinking, "How did they miss this?"Tozer writes of spiritual things, not of the religious outward works of the flesh. His concern is that we all might tune in our spiritual receptors and begin letting the Lord take us deeper into him. I resonated with this book in many things the Lord is presently teaching me.Tozer writes, "We have almost forgotten that God is a person and, as such, can be cultivated as any person can. It is inherent in personality to be able to know other personalities, but full knowledge of one personality by another cannot be achieved in one encounter."He goes on to say,"God is a person, and in the deep of His mighty nature He thinks, wills, enjoys, feels, loves, desires and suffers as any other person may... He communicates with us through the avenues of our minds, our wills, and our emotions."Yet, we must know that it is through the inner man (i.e. our spirit) that Christ's life governs the soul life and the body. Watchman Nee has written an excellent work regarding this matter. I encourage you to read "The Spiritual Man" and "The Release of the Spirit."Tozer has done a great thing to point out the flaws of the "smug and content" churches in America. Christ's 'forgiveness of sins' seems to be the resting place of most Christians... never moving on in purusit of Christ in all things. These people settle for programs, passions, ministries, and movements... they never grow up into Christ.Tozer writes, "Why do some persons "find" God in a way that others do not?" He answers, "The difference lies not with God but with us."If I could sum up this book in one phrase... it would be: SPIRITUAL RECEPTIVITY. Tozer beckons us to press on to Christ in God as person, not as a floating spirit hovering on the ceiling during worship and prayer time. Those who follow the urge to press on further into Christ and do something about that urge instead of ignoring it... will know the depths and the riches of the Living God.We must move on past our doctrinal knowledge of God and enter into Christ, the Person. Tozer writes, "the highest love of God is not intellectual, it is spiritual. God is Spirit and only the spirit of a man can know Him really."There are many who will label this kind of book as "Christian mysticism" or "the deeper Christian life". I am uncomfortable with using both of these phrases regularly... and lean toward not using them at all. The confusion comes by a failure to distinguish between what is "normal" and what is "common".What I mean is... it may not be common for man to speak of experience with Christ in the way of a Tozer, Sparks, Nee, Merton, or Madame Guyon. Nevertheless, it is not abnormal and should not be considered "deeper" or "mystical". These are not words used of the first disciples and I see them being completely unnecessary, and even distracting, when speaking of the normal Christian life Christ has lived, died, and been resurrected to freely give to all.The apostle Paul spoke of the life of Christ in the same way as the so-called "mystical" Christian writers. We should not think that Paul was speaking of life that only a few can experience. Coming into the life that is described by Paul and many of the Christian "mystics"... is nothing deserving of any name or title other than the normal worship of Christ, the Person of God.We should understand this "deeper" part of our journey with Christ as being a normal progression of the working out of salvation and us being made complete in Christ (Phil. 2:12; Col. 2:2-3). These unnecessary words and phrases do not put the emphasis on the person of Christ, but on the person who worships him. I see no need for the distractive adjectives and the luring language of super Christians.I also recommend reading: The Spiritual Man (3 volume set) The Centrality of Jesus Christ (Works of T. Austin-Sparks) Volume One The Release of the Spirit Christ the Center (Harper's Ministers Paperback Library) Christ the Sum of All Spiritual Things The Normal Christian Life (Hendrickson Christian Classics) Experiencing the Depths of Jesus Christ (Library of Spiritual Classics, Volume 2)

The Longest Chase.
How are we to find belief in God? A question that has tested human beings, at least those of us who are open to finding out, for centuries. For the most part it is one that theologians haven’t been much help in answering. They tend to bind the whole issue around with arguments and terminology so complex you could be forgiven for thinking they might get more than a little lost themselves sometimes.A few hardy souls have tried to make the subject halfway accessible for we lay people with varying levels of success. C.S Lewis in his Mere Christianity, a book based on talks he gave on the BBC during the Second World War, has been for me the go to text. This book by American preacher A.W. Tozer who lived and worked in Chicago in the first half of last century may just join him on my personal list of required reading. The tone is different, Lewis was an Oxbridge don and for all the good sense and noble intentions he demonstrates did tend to address his audience from a position of lofty intellectual superiority. This can, along with some of the social attitudes implied, grate on the sensibilities of modern readers.Tozer, who was largely self-educated and began his career as a preacher in a store front church, speaks in a markedly different voice. His is that of the ‘plain man’, one who speaks simply without ever being simplistic in what he has to say.His message, as was the case with Lewis, is that there is no more satisfying and ultimately necessary thing a human being can do than set out on the long search for a relationship with God. A demanding journey that asks much of those who make it, but one that leads them to a better and more moral life. For all the homespun nature of his language the arguments Tozer makes are informed by years of study and informed by a deep and living faith. Anyone setting out on the journey he describes needs more than one guidebook to show them the way; this short but profound one will join a select few others in my own luggage.

A worthy quest
The Christian world in the 21st century is nothing but compromises and concessions to the tradition and laws of men. Many Christians have stopped following the word of God and therefore they have lost the way. In this book, written 6 to 7 decades ago, the question remains: Are we fully experiencing life if it is not for the glory of our Creator? Sin removed us from His presence. To go back to Eden, children of God must start the quest to follow what their Father wants. In that pursuit, they will find not only redemption for their souls but also fulfillment of their life's purpose here on earth. That is what the book is about. In the most beautifully crafted words, AW Tozer poured his heart in this book. This could only be an inspiration by the Holy Ghost.
