This is not one of Loreth’s best
A child’s trainer containing a dismembered foot is washed up onto a beach. Detective Angie Pallorino is trying to solve issues from her past. Roll along another mystery from Loreth Anne White.Although The Lullaby Girl is the second book in the series, I believe this book can be read as a standalone. I had read the first book in this series, called The Drowned Girls, some five years ago. On reading The Lullaby Girl, I was getting echoes from the first book and things were ringing a bell. Angie Pallorino being adopted after a car accident in Italy, Angie having a lip scar and having a relationship with fellow detective James Maddocks who lives on a leaking old boat with his three legged Jack Russell dog called Jack-O.However, I rated The Drowned Girls the top score of 5 stars, yet I found The Lullaby Girl to be an OKAY 3 star read. The sharpness I enjoyed in The Drowned Girls is not here. The story rolls along in rather a predictable way - no spoilers from me but there are no outstanding twists or WOW! Moments. There is a tiny bit of romance, more of a token really. The Lullaby Girl is a follow on book that brings closure for the reader on Angie’s past but this is not one of Loreth’s best and is far below her usual high standard. It does make me check boarding passengers for visible tattoos though!
