Almost perfect . . . . but
. With UPDATE . This is a reassuringly weighty pair of headphones. They fit perfectly and won't fall off if you tilt your head. The earcups cover my ears completely and exclude most exterior sounds. The well padded earcups are very comfortable and having used them for six hours I really don't notice them. . The sound is excellent. Having listened to the 4 CD's of the 1967 The Monterey International Pop Festival with a line-up including Eric Burdon & The Animals, Big Brother & The Holding Company (w Janis Joplin), The Byrds, Otis Redding, Hendrix & Scott McKenzie I have no complaints about the audio reproduction. . However, what is almost completely hidden in the product photos are the thin audio cables connecting the headband adjustment slider to the earcups. The designers have decided not to run them internally where they would never get snagged or pulled. This is a concerning decision! They have put them on the outside where I just know that they will eventually be damaged. . Most of my headphones fall apart around the headband adjustment slider because they just clip together and break very easily. The Shure designers have done something correctly - they have used screws to hold the slider together. Well done. . Hopefully this pair of headphones WILL last more than six months of constant use! . UPDATE 22nd June 2021 Having used the Shure SRH440-BK-EFS Professional Headphones for four weeks I am pleased to say again that they are a great buy. . I use them for extended periods and I don't even notice that they are there. They do not grip my ears too tightly and, surprisingly, during a few exceptionally hot days the ear cushions do not get sweaty! Hopefully the ear cushion covers will not start to disintegrate for many months - replacement ear cushions are available if that does happen. . I have not yet caught a wayward finger in the ridiculous cable loops on the OUTSIDE of the slider. I hope that I continue to be snag free! .

Crisp sound and comfortably sits over ears
I usually go for Marshall headphones as they honour a good deep bass sound (to enjoy rock/metal) but the wired headphones do not come with long leads. I needed one for my Yamaha electronic drum kit. I have bought a Shure headset mic (to sing while drumming) and am very happy with the overall quality so opted for these Shure headphones, especially, also, for the long wired lead. They are excellent build quality (really soft and easy over the ears) and the sound quality is very crisp and clear. The true tone of every strike of drum & cymbals very accurate. The only thing is that the output favours & celebrates slightly more towards the 'treble' spectrum so if you need more bass to balance in then might have to adjust your input accordingly. A quality product and listening experience.

Better fit, but fabric parts wear faster.
This the third in the SRH440 line that I've owned. Sound quality is good, but each time I've had problems with the headset itself. Previously it's been a problem with weak points that my giant head eventually caused to snap. This time round, the changes to the build has prevented that and improved the fit, however I've found the fabric parts have worn out much faster than previously. I suspect this is down to climate more than anything else, as it's heat susceptible parts like the plastic coating on the ear parts and the glue on the headband that have become worn.

Fantastic headphones! Great quality audio, comfortable as you like, good length detachable cord, comes with jack adapter and cord screws in to ensure you can't accidentally pull it out.

Not as good as I hoped
I was mostly happy with these headphones, which I used for editing audio for classical music, opera, choral performances and video interviews. The sound was okay. Not too bass heavy, as you would expect from studio headphones. There was a creaking noise that was a bit annoying (any slight face or head movement would producing some creaking in the plastic). But I had learnt to live with that. However, yesterday, after two years of use, the piece that connects one of the ear cups to the headband broke. The headphones didn't fall, I didn't yank them. I just grabbed them from my gear bag and they were broken. So now I've just bought headphones from another brand that are described everywhere as "an industry standard", and apparently are known to last for a very long while. I just did a test with some choral singing I recorded yesterday. The new headphones sound a bit brighter, and the mid and high notes have a bit more articulation, whilst the Shure cans have a slightly muddy sound. I don't know if that's the consequence of two years of use or if it would be the same if they were new. also, good news is I didn't hear any creaking noises with the new headphones! What I will miss about the SRH440s, though, is the ability to unplug the cable from the headphones. That was convenient when storing them, and it also gave me a sense of security that the cable would not break. To be honest, if these headphones had not broken I would not have replaced them despite the creakiness. But now I'm glad I did.

Comfortable. Adaptable. Closed back clear sound
I was advised to buy pro earphones for (midi) music editing. I didn't realise how much clearer the sound is than through cheaper/basic one's. These are closed back which apparently works better for my needs. Medium weight with nice cushioned earpads. Which rotate and the headband extends readily. I wear them between one and two hours each time and they do not feel hot or uncomfortable. They were not the most expensive but work well. I am happy with them.
