Not recommended for commuters who need a reliable tail-light for safety.
This is a sturdy light with a metal housing and a very bright tail light. Unfortunately, road vibrations cause the light to shut off. Before I gave up on this light, I tried to keep it on by checking every 10-15 seconds on my 20-minute ride to work. I had to turn the light back on at least 20 times. So aggravating! At least the crappy $10 lights stay on!I give it 2 stars due to Fortified's stellar customer service. I wrote them about the issue and they mailed me some rubber bumpers to help hold the battery inside the housing. The reason the light shorts out is because the battery slides loosely into a chamber with the light bulb connection at the base. Amazingly minor road vibrations break the battery-bulb connection and the light shuts off, and doesn't come back on.Fortified has refunded my purchase, which I really appreciate. I believe there is a chance I received a defective product. I cannot say this for sure, as I was offered rubber bumpers instead of a full replacement.Check one of these out at your local bike shop, and make sure they have a refund policy.

I am not too happy about that
First light I got stopped working, unexpectedly - company would not respond back to me, either. I finally bought another and that one now flickers off every 15 minutes or so, on it's own. I am not too happy about that, for I go on bike rides for longer than 15 minutes. Though, when they shine, they shine brightly and for an ample duration.

Fatal flaw, with a work-around.
TL;DNR: Glue a felt furniture pad to the back of the battery, or the light will go out while you are riding.I was shocked and scared when I got home in pitch dark and discovered that this new rear light had gone out. I started knocking it, and sure enough, sometimes it would go on, sometimes off. Eventually I figured out why, thanks to the fact that I had multiple batteries to experiment with: some of the batteries are too short and move back and forth. So as you ride over bumps, the battery will move back and forth -- often going out.The way to prove this to yourself: hold the light vertically, with the red facing up. With some batteries, it just goes out: the contact is broken as gravity pulls the too-short battery away from the contacts. Shake the light vertically, and as the battery moves up and down, the light goes on and off.The "solution" I found was to use one of those round, felt pads you glue to the bottom of furniture legs to prevent the furniture from scratching the floor. Some of these pads come with glue on them already.0.9" (2.2cm) in diameter fits the back of the battery perfectly. I glued one on to the short battery and inserted the battery -- I had to push, but not much: the felt compressed to fit just right. Now the light stays on all the time. What really amazes me is that Defender had almost the same problem in _three_ versions of the original front light. Twice I had to get a free replacement because of this known defect -- they failed to fix it the first time. The symptoms were the same: knocking the light around made it go off/on/off. How is it possible that in version 2 they failed to test for this again?!!In short, the problem is that the batteries, made cheaply in China, aren't all the same length.I hope this solution helps others.

Excellent light. Thought it would be bulky but it's very sleek. If you have muscular thighs mount it lower on your seat post because the back bracket will rub your thigh on your down stroke. Great product overall!

Great product works as expected. Wish they'd change the push time to 3 seconds for power off but otherwise good investment!

Truly Indestructible
I've had these lights for over a year now and I just had to circle back and leave some review info. In the time that I've had these, I've been in 2 accidents (Cars running red lights) and one wipe out of my own on the ice. I also ride year-round - in Boston - without taking them off the bike, and they work like a charm even covered in snow or in the pouring rain. These babies are truly indestructible. Absolutely no worse for the wear no matter what I throw at them. Best bike accessory I've ever purchased.
