Fine and reliable ink
Excellent quality fountain pen ink. Rich Royal Blue color, the ink works well in any brand of fountain pen, including antique pens. It is water soluble so it's easy to clean up in case your pen leaks, but if you keep your paper dry, the ink doesn't smudge.

A good, reliable, dry, traditional blue-black ink
I was very happy to find this ink available on Amazon. It's a nice blue-black, a good though not wildly amazing colour, but I needed a drier ink to tame my gusher of a Pilot Falcon. I always used blue-black in that pen anyway, and this is pretty close in colour to the Pilot ink I was using, but which was too wet in that pen. Now the pen writes much better and seems to do fine with the ink. I wouldn't recommend this ink for a pen that writes dry, but for a pen with very high flow (as most Pelikan pens are), this ink is great. I haven't tested it, but I believe it also has a decent amount of water resistance. I believe it has a little iron gall in it -- it does tend to darken on the page over time. I like that too.

5 Star Fountain Pen Ink
This product is well worth the purchase price. It is some of the best ink I’ve ever used.

Great Blue-Black!
I've been looking at various "safe" blue-black inks to use in my vintage pens, trying to decide which to get. After reading several reviews and comparing photos of the options, I settled on Pelikan's blue-black. It did NOT disappoint! I loaded up a vintage Esterbrook J fitted with a fine nib, and it writes wonderfully! A lot of reviews tout this ink as being on the dry side, but the Esterbrook is sufficiently wet to balance this out. I love that the ink goes down a more vibrant hue and transforms to a lovely dusty shade of blue as it dries, which is particularly fascinating on Rhodia paper. No major feathering or bleed-through on cheaper copy paper. Definitely recommend!

Quality, smooth flowing product
this is the good stuff, straight from Germany. Quality ink, flows smoothly, like the shade of blue.

Business Blue
This Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue is my first ink from Pelikan. It’s a solid, no-nonsense, “business up front” blue; minimal shade, no sheen, average wetness, fairly quick drying, with minimal feathering/bleed-through. It won’t win any awards for mind-blowing ink, but it’s deep blue is as attractive as it is professional. The bottle is attractively simple, to boot.

Beautiful color compatible with all my pens
I don't spend a lot of time trying out new or different inks. I like one narrow range of shades of blue, basically, those that combine just enough purple to not lose the dominate blue, but enough to make it pop as unique and unmistakable. For a long time, I used Sheaffer Skrip blue, but eventually quit when I found it tended to fade after a couple of years. I use yellow notepads in my work for taking reading notes and writing instructional comments in my role as a university professor. Over the course of 8 to 10 years, I found that all my notes written in Sheaffer blue had faded to the point of being nearly unusable in class. And, I had no choice but to re-read whatever the source was and make new notes. That wasn't a bad idea anyway--re-reading and taking notes again--but, during the hectic flow of the semester, it became frustrating. So, I tried Pelikan Royal Blue after that and really liked it. But, for some reason, I kept on trying different inks that approximated the shade of blue I like. These included most notably Noodler's Ink, which I found always tended to flow too much ink through the various vintage pens that I restored and luxury pens I own. Then, I found Waterman's Florida Blue, which I really liked. But then, it was discontinued for some reason known only to the manufacturer. So, rather than embark on a new search--which I had neither the time nor money to commit--I decided to return to Pelikan, with which I never had a problem or complaint. Strange how it works, isn't it? You find something that serves your purpose and works well, then you keep trying to find something better. I've done that many times throughout my life and, more often than not, found it frustrating to no end. So, here is what I have concluded about the blue ink in the shade I like, manufactured by Pelikan: It's the best I have found. It serves my purpose well. And, unless and until I find something I don't like about it: I will use it exclusively. Thus concludes my review. :) --NDA

Lighter shade of blue
Lighter blue like highlighter skyblue. Good and if you want to try diffrent shades of blue, would recommend. Comes with a decent box and should be fine to give as gift for fountain pen users.
