For a universal knife block, this isn't very universal. I have ergonomic chef's knives. The handles of 2 knives barely fit in 2 slots, try to add a 3rd and you may snap off a blade. I didn't even get to the point where I checked the steak knife slots. The problem comes from trying to minimize the amount of wood and maximize the number of slots. If one row of chef knives were deleted and the spaces evenly separated this would be a fantastic knife block. It is beautifully made but I don't need a paper weight for my counter. I also wish it had a slot wide enough to handle the grapefruit knife I have in my set. Needs about 1 1/2" more wood to add to the distance between knife rows.

Original I had said that this knife block had been poorly designed and I returned it. The company saw my review and contacted me to see how they could improve the design. After several emails back and forth they have come up with a knife block that works!The slots are just the right size for my everyday knifes and I couldn't be happier with the new and improved version of this made in the U.S.A. knife block.Original review:Poor design.The large knife slots are just a smidgen to small for some of my knives, and the smaller knife slots are definitely a smidgen to small for some of your basic knives such as a bread knife and a carving/salmon knife. Out of my basic everyday 8 or 9 knives that I like to keep in a knife block only about three or four fit in the slots. The picture shows three different size slots but in reality 8 of the slots are the same size and only four of the slots are the large size.Very, very disappointed.

I like the looks of the knife block and the capacity of how many knives it holds. I did not like the attached steak knife holder because the steak knives I purchased hung out of the bottom of the holder and would any surface the holder sat on if you moved it say to clean the countertop. I had to put a trivet underneath the knife block to prevent the steak knives from scratching my countertop.

The craftsmanship is excellent. The issue I have is that my tall bread and serated knives are too long and come out the other end and hit the counter. I didn’t know till I picked it up and poked myself with the tip of the knife. I think there should have s bottom on it do the tips don’t poke out the bottom.

We ordered this knife block to hold the knives that we currently use. Because we considered the number of slots before purchasing it, it held the correct number of knives. We have a small kitchen and like the small counter footprint of this block.

All the knives I have fit very well in all the slots. My only disappointment is there was no round opening to insert my knife sharping rod, so I kind of have it where the scissors are held inserted on an angle.

The slots are wide enough for basic large knives. The front slots for steak knives are too close together so you can't use them all. Overall a poor design. I will return.

Love the size; gives me so much more counter space and it looks great
