No, they fit pretty close to your face. The nose piece fits right on the bridge of your nose.

Q: If you are nearsighted (and usig this device w/o your glasses), will it be able to focus satisfactorily on the subject using one eye only?

Yes. I am nearsighted and use one single lens held in my hand to check the trichomes on my cannabis plants. You just have to bring it into Focus manually. It's easy. I was not able to use the glasses as a pair. I had trouble getting them aligned with my eyes
