The Stop Shop Stainless Brake Line Fitting Kit for 1/4" tube, Inverted Flare (16 Fittings Included)

On our '62 Corvair project car, the old fuel lines were in pretty bad shape, and buying a complete set of new chrome lines for 4 carburetors was just too expensive. However, by buying the zinc coated bulk steel line and these stainless steel nuts, I found a good compromise. First of all, the stainless is harder than the standard line nuts, and less prone to getting rounded corners from using the wrong wrench (you should always use "line" wrenches for these, but most people don't). Secondly, the stainless steel is almost as brilliant as chrome and I was able to polish the zinc line with mag wheel polish to a semi-gloss condition. Again, chrome lines and nuts would have been nice but, even with the cost of the stainless nut set, I saved about $100 on this job. Of course, you need a good double flaring tool and a decent tubing bender to complete the job properly. If you have the right tools, nothing compares to the satisfaction of making the parts you need.

Per the description and and label there are supposed to be 2 9/16" and 2 1/2" fittings - as you can see in the picture - there were 4 9/16" fittings. I'll never use those, so I feel I wasted some money. Same thing occurred in the 3/16" fitting pack as well.
