Midnight Rain

Understated and evocative
Some would say that not much happens, but this story has the quality of speaking volumes in small quantities. There's a sense of desperation in both of the characters that is quite relatable to anyone who has gone through rough times and loneliness, and i think that's why i find it so moving. The men, Ethan and Mike, are mysteries, there are no dramatic flashbacks, or in-depth conversations about their past lives, the whys and whos are left to the imagination, as readers we are simply along for the ride, which can leave some readers with a vague sense of dissatisfaction. Though there is some conflict with external forces, and there is little resolution to this external conflict, the real struggle for Mike and Ethan is establishing a relationship. But the emotions are raw, the need they feel for each other is real even when it is difficult to articulate why, Mike and Ethan fill each other's empty spaces. It is easy to sympathize with their wanting to be loved and accepted, to be with someone who brings joy with no strings attached. The art is gorgeous, both men are muscular and rough and handsome and though there is a couple of intimate graphic scenes, they are not explicit, Mistress Censorship strikes again! In the end, the storytelling is low key, but the emotions run hot and messy, and i can't help but root for these two guys, whose spirits are battered but still capable of loving.

Sad its a one shot.
I dont typically read one shots cause theyre usually rushed and just use the main love interests boneing as a end goal but this was unbelievably great. The book its self is a gloss cover (similar to Ten Counts, same publisher so). Its a average length at just under 200 pages. The art is phenomenal, nice thin lines with hatching and wonderful page comps. There is unfortunately a noncon scene but its not that long and set the tone for the whole one shot. If you're a fan of himbo and serious LI's this will be a new favorite for you.

I loved it!
Story and art are amazing! Printing job made reading a little difficult, since some of the dialogue got cut off at the top of the page, but still, totally worth the read. Love their relationship arc. 🥰🥰🥰 I would say the biggest letdown for me is knowing this is a one shot only.

Great condition
I love the fact that I was able to get this. The condition was great. I was expecting a little bit of bending of it because of how it was packaged but nope!

Interesting story with a bit of an open ending.
I initially read an online version of this story and wanted an actual copy to keep. It’s a good story about the struggle for these two guys to express their true feelings and selves to each other.Mike and Ethan are the main characters in this story.Ethan is better at expressing his emotions but is really struggling with his own problems like debt and depression and just being lonely. While it’s clear that Mike definitely has a lot of physiological baggage. I’m actually curious as to what his life has been like. He is extremely reluctant to reach out and accept other people in his life. Resulting in him being very much a loner and being fairly aggressive towards others. His getting into a random fight for unknown reasons is basically the cause for their introduction to one another. A second fight causes him to have seek help from Ethan, as he doesn’t seem to know anyone else in the area. (It seems Mike is only in town because he’s drifting through.).As a result a tentative relationship starts to form between the two men. The book explores how they attempt to connect with each other while simultaneously trying to cope with their own struggles. It’s a fascinating story where you aren’t sure if they’ll come together and find a bit of peace or fall apart violently. It does have a bit of an open ending though-you see the beginning progress of their relationship but it’s obvious they both still have more issues to work through.I like that dramatic emotions involved. It’s much more than a simple romance story where the characters just seem to automatically find the other attractive and the plot is basically just getting them together. This book is more about two people trying to meet each other on the same grounds. In ‘Midnight Rain’ Ethan seems more open to a romantic relationship, while Mike is just trying to survive day to day life.Circumstances bring them together, but will it also break them apart?

Boring and censored
I'll start of with the good! Most of the art is really gorgeous. Now the bad! All the fun scenes are completely censored or have DBZ lines all over the place so you have no idea what you are looking at. The story is painfully dull and nonsensical. The story revolves around their "dangerous" jobs and overall lives but we never see them do these dangerous things and we aren't really told what they are doing either. Every love scene is, "oh you punched me in the face let's have sex now." For the most part the story is taken serious but every couple of pages jokes and Chibi style art would be thrown in that really doesnt fit in and is distracting from any real engagement. Also the main character was always referred to as "big" or a "bear"...a hairy chest does not equal either of those terms. The "bonus chapter" is laughably bad and adds nothing to story. There are way better BL Mangas out there please save your money for those ones.
