Summer Brain Quest: Between Grades 1 & 2

I will buy these every summer!
This is an awesome summer workbook to keep minds active between school sessions. It’s not super overwhelming, each activity is different enough from the others that it doesn’t feel repetitive or boring, lots of colors and pictures, and the map with stickers keeps kids excited.I don’t feel that my seven year old daughter can do a lot of these pages on her own, so I sit by to help, but it creates a good learning/teaching opportunity and lets me know what she may need to work on or understand better. I think it totally depends on the kid as to whether or not they can do this on their own or not.I calculated the number of pages my daughter needed to do each day if she worked on it 5 days a week for the 10 weeks she has off, and it ended up being 11 pages per week or about 2 pages per day, which is very doable. If she wants to do more I let her, as I know some days get crazy and we won’t be able to get to the workbook.I will be buying these brain quest summer books every summer for each of my kids!

A Great addition to summer routine! Kids love the path
Each page is a different subject, and the colorful and cool images and "work" makes learning fun! My kids do a few pages each day of summer and love to put the stickers on the path. The outside challenges are fun and engaging too!

Get. This. You won't regret it.
I'll be honest, I was skeptical. Despite the great reviews I was still expecting to have to "gently force" (re: coerce, threaten, bribe) my daughter to work on this book during the summer. But I felt strongly that, after a crazy year of virtual school, she could really use some practice before starting 2nd grade. She side-eyed the book when I first pulled it out, but as soon as I opened it up and showed her the map and the stickers and the fun game-like assignments, she was completely won over. She sat down and plowed through the entire first level in one sitting! If anything, I'm finding myself having to pace her by reminding her to take breaks. It does take a little oversight from me at times, when she has trouble understanding the directions and when she needs me to check her work. And there have been 1 or 2 lessons so far that involved things she says she didn't learn this past year (it's possible that she just forgot). But to be fair, my daughter often asks for help even when I know she can figure it out on her own, so some of that is just specific to her. I think the level of difficulty is appropriate, at least so far (she's on level 3 right now). Some lessons are pretty easy for her, but others are harder/require more thought. And I can see that she's practicing a lot of things she was doing this past year. A good mix of skill levels. She likes that every page is different - rotates through math, science, social studies, reading/writing - so she's not stuck doing one specific thing for a long time. The ONLY negative I can come up with is that I can already tell this isn't going to last her all summer. I'm really wishing they'd made an entire series! I went ahead and ordered the Brain Quest 1st grade book (I think it's intended to be used as supplemental work during the year, but I'll be using it as summer practice) AND I already ordered the summer book for next year (2nd to 3rd grade). I looked at reviews for a LOT of summer practice workbooks before choosing this one, and I'm glad I spent the extra time to find this one. The fact that Brain Quest manages to make the learning fun makes all the difference. Kudos to them!

Stop the summer slide
I love this book for my son. For every page that is completed, you get to put a sticker on the fold-out map. It keeps him motivated to keep working. I love that this book and its activities can help him use his learning over the summer. I am only giving 4 stars simply because the book came apart from the cover.

Really Engaging
Really Fun Activities for my almost 2nd grader. My child really looks forward to doing these activities. HOWEVER, they're short...And easy... Perhaps by the end of the book, things will be challenging for him. Maybe it gets harder as it goes. Currently it takes 5 minutes, if that. The treasure map + stickers gimmick though? GOLD. My child LOVES to do it each day and proudly shows everyone who enters our home the progress being made.

Perfeito!
Essa série é perfeita. Eu uso pra dar um boost nas tarefas de casa com meus filhos, já que a escola manda pouca coisa para casa. As atividades são bem alinhadas com o que é ensinado na escola.

My kids love these! Make school fun!
These books are so much fun for my kids. They love getting the stickers and putting them on the map. Wish they did it for other books and not just the summer workbooks. I find with the Canadian curriculum these books work well except sometimes with money it’s American, not Canadian and in the older books I would say grade 4 and up there’s a lot of irrelevant stuff for Canadian kids such as American history stuff. So it’s great for younger kids!

Excelente!!

We use them for homeschooling with both our kids and the activities are engaging and they make sense in comparison to other books we have found where the poblems are not engaging or good for learning. My son especially loves the pages with the riddles!
