The Care and Keeping of You Journal: for Younger Girls (American Girl® Wellbeing) Review: Great journal for my 9 year old - This has been a great book for my 9 year old. We talk about the topics and she fills this out before she goes to bed at night. It’s a great way to give the girls tools to manage life at this age (and prepare for middle school). Highly recommended! Review: Fantastic - My 9 year old daughter loves this book. I purchased it for her when she was 8 because she was "developing" sooner than most girls her age. We actually have many AG books about dealing with friends, gossiping, keeping organized etc. Every book is tremendously important and connects perfectly with the target age group. This particular book deals with hygiene issues, changes in our bodies, For example, why we grow hair in certain places, why our sweat has an odor, why our hair gets oily etc. There are wonderful suggestions on how to manage it all and discussed in a very laid back, matter-of-fact way. I found it actually made my daughter want to do things independently. She wanted to take care of herself better! We read it together and it has opened the door for questions that I don't think she would ever have asked me if she didn't have this book. This is a must if you have a young daughter. We don't realize that they are noticing the changes and they do have questions. It's a great first step in the "Caring of..." series.

They feel so big !!
This is full of checklists and reminders of things that are important like brushing teeth, making your bed, cleaning up after yourself. My girls have really enjoyed the checklists and learning how to become more "mature". It's perfect and helps to make the book more interactive. They haven't put it down since it came in. They are 10.

This is an amazing interactive book for girls - I just wish I could find one like this for boys.

Daughter loves
She loves this journal and loved the book that it goes along with. I like that it has places for her to reflect about how her body is changing. She likes reading the book and now she can write about how she feels about what she is reading.

Easy for Kids to Understand
I really appreciate this book. It helps to break the ice for "the talks" about puberty and starts the child on the journey to be an adult. There is chapters about emotions. There are sections on puberty and female things. Everything is drawn in a gentle cartoon and introduces ideas nicely. I like that it's a full care book. It doesn't just go over puberty but healthy sleep habits and healthy eating habits. There is discussion of homework and time management. I really like it and my Social Worker friends buy them to hand out to kids in rougher situations who may not feel comfortable talking to their caretaker. I suggest you have the kids do it in pencil as they can redo the questions later on for different issues and gives them awesome journaling ideas.

Perfect for little growing girls.
My oldest daughter is almost 9 and ALREADY starting to hit puberty. 😭 I am very open and honest and we are all comfortable with talking about it and whatnot. But I just wanted her to have her own way of expressing herself privately and learning and whatnot. This goes with the book perfectly and she loves the activities and questions and information in both. It’s age appropriate and very relatable. It was a big hit and my 6 year old can’t wait to be “big” to get one for herself. 🙂

Perfect for growing girls
Got my 9 year old the book and she let me in know in no time there was a journal too. She completed the journal in a day and still goes back to it every few days. These are perfect for girls who are trying to learn more about their bodies and the changes they’re going through

I bought this journal as an accompaniment to the book of the same name (see photo) and it is brilliant. The journal covers the same spread of topics; about me, healthy eating, exercise, periods, emotions, feeling good about yourself. It DOES NOT cover sex or relationships. Lots of brightly coloured pages with minimal text so ideal for a primary school aged child (my daughter is 9yo and in Year 5). I would say the journal is probably best suited to 11s and under as it is more simplistic than the book and maybe looks a bit babyish for those in early secondary school. The book though, is excellent and probably suitable up to Year 7 or Year 8.
