I used this timing tool kit on my 2012 Volkswagen GTI, and it worked perfectly. It includes every specialty tool required for the timing chain job, which made the whole process much easier. I tackled the timing chain as a DIY project, and this kit saved a ton of time. Everything fit correctly, felt well-made, and did the job without any issues. I plan to keep the kit for any future timing chain jobs. If you’re planning to do a timing chain on a GTI, this set is absolutely worth it.

The dial indicator doesn't feel the best quality but I would highly recommend this unit that has the TDC locator if you are doing the timing chain on a VW TSI engine (mark 6 or higher). The TDC indicator gave a ton of reassurance that the engine pistons were in the correct position and I was very happy to be 1000% they were in the right spot. The dial indicator gave an extremely precise location of the TDC and it would start to move at the slightest bump of the crank. Be careful when setting up the TDC device, as if you are haphazard with it can stop the pistons from ever reaching TDC. I set it up so that with the dial put into the spark plug extension tube - that in its fully depressed position it extended into the combustion chamber no further than the spark plug. Take your time in setting this up. Everything worked as designed and had no issues with the unit. Reading other reviews and to just comment, the timing gear holding units slid in with no issues. I did have to flip the threaded end and knurled end in one of the sprocket holders and it was assembled backwards, but this wasn't a big deal and was easy to figure out.

Worked incredibly well. It is higher quality than I expected. Allowed me to change my timing chains with ease. The crankshaft pulley holder is high quality and quite strong.
