AVENGERS BY BUSIEK & PEREZ OMNIBUS VOL. 1 [NEW PRINTING] (Avengers Omnibus)

There is no doubt that the most beautiful pencils made for the Avengers are inthe pages of this series illustrated by the master George Perez in his best. He is one of the few comic artists that grow older and better every time he takes a "new job". Even some great masters like John Byrne were not able to become better during all their works(just compare Byrne's marvelous works on his first X-Men and Iron Fist stories and his later time in "Namor",,,it seems he got tired). There are some beautiful pages penciled by Stuart Immonen, Carlos Pacheco and Jerry Ordway,but they seem regular beside Perez pages. One artist that gets close to George Perez in his work with tha Avengers is the great Mike Deodato Jr(you can appreciate his greatness on the "Secret Avengers" and "Dark Avengers" collections),but he is still second best. The only disapointment I had with this omnibus is the lack of wraparound pages for the woderful number one and some beautiful posters penciled by the master Perez--you have to force the pagebinding to see the details of the center. Marvel should have done a better work on this detaillike they did on the "X-Men Omnibus" by Jim Lee,where you can unfold the final pages and appreciate perfectly all the details--I sincerely hope they will correct this mistake on their next Avengers Omnibus by Perez. By the way, the plots written by Buziek are very good but the great attraction of this edition is the work of the master penciller.

This collection features some of the strongest writing and art Marvel offered in 1998 (up to 2001). The stories are rich and dense, and the art is truly magnificent. I am sad to wonder if this is Marvel's last great era in comics production.As others have mentioned, it is a thick, heavy tome. It is great for home and will look good on the bookshelf once you've read it. It should provide reading enjoyment for years to come.

This is a wonderful book. It's beautifully printed on high quality paper and bound extremely well. The story telling in it is terrific and the art by George Perez is stunningly gorgeous. If you like the Avengers, buy this book. You'll love it.

Reading Kurt Busiek's run on Earth's Mightiest Heroes is like reading a fan of the Avengers writing Avengers stories for fans of the Avengers!

Mildly used. Arrived ahead of time and in excellent condition! Great book! Looks good next to volume 2 :-)It's out of print, so a bit pricy for this copy that I bought.

FYI this book is already OUT OF PRINT at the distributor level. This means once it is gone then it is truly gone. Amazon may be able to get some more from the direct market, however if you want this book by it now or you run the risk of not finding it later. That is the reason I bought mine last week.Honestly I have never been a big Avengers fan. I read the original Silver Age Omnibus, and a few Masterworks of 70s material, the Bendis NEW Avengers run, all the usual event stuff and I can honestly say none of it really grabbed me. Avengers were like a team without the family dynamic of the FF, X-MEN or Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans.However a list I trust is called "100 greatest comic runs of all time masterlist" (Google it for a list of must reads voted by fans.) had this ranked pretty high so if you want to read an Avengers run this is probably the one to read.So far I am only 1/4 of the way through this giant tome, and I can honestly say this has been the best Avengers title I have read. The Perez art as usual is stunning an the stories are great. I usually only review books once I am done, but the OOP status was something I wanted buyers to know.The book itself it well built, the extras are plentiful, and the Pérez Wraparound cover is really nice.If you are on the fence on this book or choosing between this and another Omnibus, buy this one as your option the buy this will be gone in the next few months.

4 stars for how beautiful this omnibus is. George Perez can do no wrong. 2.5 stars for the writing. Busiek took on way too much trying to write for this many characters.
