A good source for the beginner.
I had borrowed this book from a friend and found it pretty informative. Problem was, my friend wanted his back! The book is a little dated (1998) but full of good information for the beginner who's attempting to plan out and install their own irrigation system. I would not how ever call it a "one stop" resource. It only touches a little on all the different systems, tools, and equipment.

Sprinklers and drip systems for dummies.
If I had to describe this book, it would be a dummies book for sprinkler and drip systems. Think of it as more as demystification of the concept versus a full on descriptive how-to book.My wife wanted to learn how about watering systems and used this book as an introduction. It does a decent job explaining the parts and thoughts involved with setting up a system. Though I wouldn’t say it’s a good book for somebody who has a solid understanding. Even as a reference book; its light and covers the very basics of issues. You will have to know your yard and the plants involved. The only suggestions are the amount of water for certain aspects. It will not offer detailed suggestions or comparisons for certain types of plants vs others. It’s basic. For lightly water plants you use a mister, etc.The book has five sections: The basics of home irrigation, getting started, sprinkler irrigation, micro-irrigation and using and repairing an irrigation system. As I said; it’s an introduction to the concept. There are many pictures and drawings and it talks about things like water pressure, flat and sloped yards.Overall, this book will move you from “nodding your head” to having an idea of what is being discussed if you talk to people about things. Am I going to keep this book for future reference? Limited shelf space so I am donating it.

Does not tell how to install a sprinkler system.
Far too basic. If you want a glossy introduction to sprinklers, but have no plans to actually install a system, this is the book for you.If you want to install a sprinkler system, there are maybe 5 pages of useful information in this book, and not near enough detail to actually break ground. Find another source of information.

overall good coverage, could have been more detailed
Book does a pretty good job at hitting all the points in planning and installing your irrigation system. Installing a system kind of feels like a major undertaking at first, but after reading the book I feel pretty comfortable about it (although I've only begun my installation, guess we'll see if things stay nice and comfy). I liked some of the side points in the book where it went into a little more detail about certain aspects of the job, however, in other areas I felt there should have been more detail. Book seemed like it might be a little dated as a few topics seemed to stick with more old-school standards (e.g., poly-pipe is now used in many new areas to hook-up from the meter to the house, but the book assumed that you would only find copper, galvenized steel, or PVC (stiff white) pipe for this application). I also think a book like this should provide as many "common mistakes" as possible, this books only has a few.Although my gut feeling says 3 stars, I have to upgrade to 4 because there isn't that many books our there like this one and relative to those it seems to be a winner.

Good Starter Text
I've never done any irrigation work until recently. So I took a one day course from a pro and bought this book. Since a one day course can't cover all contingencies, I found that this book filled in a lot of gaps. My interest has mainly been in drip systems, not sprinklers. I now have a good working knowledge and sound like less of a fool when I order stuff from experts.BTW, I think with this book and all the free specialized information on the Internet, most folks don't have to go much further to study the subject.

From Start to Finish
An excellent guide for the do-it-yourselfer. Illustrations and text guide you through every step of the sprinkler installation process. Though some technical background and knowledge is required to follow some of the finer points. An abosulte must for anyone interested in "putting in" a well built sprinkler system.
