Simple to use
I'm a novice woodworker and needed to round off some 1x3 slats for a van bed build. I own a hand-me-down two-handed router that seemed a little overkill, so I ordered this one, which seemed a bit less intimidating.I had never used a router like this one before and learned how to use it by watching 2 or 3 YouTube videos. It's not that hard. I mangled the first piece of wood I tried by having the bit too low, and by the second try I had it down. If you are doing slots for drawers and other fancy stuff you might need a bit more practice, but as far as routing edges, I figured it out in about 2 minutes. All those pieces of wood have to go somewhere, and for such a small tool this thing makes a big mess. Eye protection is a must IMHO, and you'll be sweeping or wiping away a lot of wood after your project. Here are my two minor complaints. One, you have to use a small wrench to change bits but there's no where to store it, which means I might as well throw the wrench away because it'll be lost in a week. The other thing is that the on/off switch isn't easy to reach if you're holding the tool with both hands, which means each time I used it I ended up holding it with one hand (while it was still running) and trying to turn it off with the other. There may be a safer way to do this.I didn't try running a bit through granite or anything, but for rounding the edge of some wooden slats it did a great job and I'm hoping it'll make some of my future projects look a little more professional.

Add this to your shop
The media could not be loaded. If you have ryobi batteries already, you want this router. It's powerful and reliable. It's affordable enought to keep a designated bit in it. I keep a 3/32 roundover to break edges on all my cabinet doors and fronts. The 2Ah battery size works the best and last a long time.

Great product make sure you inspect it closely before you use it
I have many Ryobi cordless tools love the line and this is a great addition to my arsenal. Works well only issue I have is the base came cracked which might have happened in shipping? I didn't bother with the return because I wanted to use it right away to test it out LOL it does function good and does what a trim router is supposed to do. The other reason I did not attempt to return or contact the seller was I didn't see the cracks until after I had used lubricant on the base as soon as I sprayed it on I could see the cracks but like I said it's still functions good and it's a great router just knocked a star off for coming with a cracked base.Update: I upgraded the base to a wider one with handles 😎 Now it is my favorite trim router in the shop! When doing random small profiles it is the only one i use other corded trim routers just collecting dust! It is still running like new and have had 0 issues with it upgrading to 5 🌟 well done Ryobi 👏 however, would be nice if it came with the wider base originally as it is much more stable and easier to control definitely recommend getting the wider base to anyone looking to get this router.

Dream machine.
As long as you know what you’re doing. Cut thru walnut like a breeze.

Works well
This is a powerful trim router. I mostly like it. It would be nice if there was a dust port; routers make a lot of dust. The symmetrical bolt pattern of the base is unusual, and so far as I can tell, does not match any of the available router plates. I do not like the stiff sliding power switch at all. It's difficult to turn on and off, and because it is nearly flush with the side of the case, you have to look for it. I suppose they use this design to prevent accidentally turning it on. There are better ones that accomplish that. My cheap HFT angle grinder also has a sliding switch, but to turn it off, you just press one end of the switch. The 2AH battery will only power this router for a few minutes before it starts slowing down, then stops. The 4 AH battery lasts longer, but makes the router more top-heavy.It's a good tool, and I have made several attachments that make it more useful.

Let there be light
Been using this for about a year and a half. The king of the trim router is the Makita - what do they have to learn from this Ryobi router? The value of lighting. When I reach for a trim router, I reach for this one, for the simple reason that I can see what I’m doing.Makita - add a light.
