Torah Tutor: A Contemporary Torah Study Guide

Excellent addition to my Judaism library

Having had little Jewish education, this wonderful book has helped me to understand the stories and the lessons in the Torah, the spiritual teachings of the Jewish faith. I have come to value the passages and precepts because this book has provided insights and questions and reflections they have deepened my understanding and love of Torah.

This is a great book for those who are currently studying Torah or those who are beginning their study of Torah.It is very user-friendly. Rabbi Bohm writes in a style that is clear and concise but not simplistic or patronizing. This is a wonderful book-you will use it weekly for years to come.

I went to Jewish day school and am familiar with many of the commentaries on the weekly portion. Rabbi Lenore manages to bring a fresh take. Her thoughtful and refined takes reflect a unique lens honed through her years as a rabbi, teacher and a citizen of the world. Her position as an “insider/outsider”, someone devoted to tradition but also not afraid of new ideas and innovation makes this a new classic that I will review again and again. Throughly recommend!

Rabbi Bohm's voice rings true in the pages of Torah Tutor. As in her classes, she generously shares her reading and insight, and she asks interesting questions. I am so grateful for the opportunity to read her perspective in this book. When I study with Rabbi Bohm, my mind opens and learns. I look forward to turning pages of Torah and Torah Tutor every year.

For the past two months, we have been using TORAH TUTOR to introduce the weekly reading. Rabbi Lenore Bohm helps bring The Torah to life because she has beautifully organized each week with a useful summary, and an interesting overview, and illuminates some standout phrases. In addition, the author Rabbi Bohm devotes a page each week to issues we should talk about and think about.

I have never formally studied the Torah. This book, with its explanations, commentary, and thought-provoking questions, provides a rich learning experience for all readers. I have a new appreciation for the actual text as well as the complexities raised by Rabbi Bohm. It is impressive that both Torah novices and Torah scholars can find great value in this fresh presentation and analysis of ancient topics.
