Yes, always recommended to spot check before use.

Q: Can I use it water and laundry detergent as a solution or will it break the machine?

I think it really depends on what you're cleaning. Laundry detergent isn't my first choice for carpet or upholstery cleaning. It may damage the material/item you're cleaning more than the machine. As for the machine I don't think it will hurt it. Just follow the directions and realize that if you use cleaning detergent that is not meant for the fabric you're cleaning you run the risk of ruining it.

psi is 'pounds per sq inch' the machine works great

Q: How long will a 32oz bottle of the Oxy solution last? In other words, would i be able to use a 32oz bottle multiple times before having to buy more?

Yes, you will use it multiple times. It does not require a lot of solution. On heavy spots or a dog stain, we have used a spot spray treatment in addition. But generally it does not take much of the Oxy solution.
