Move!: The New Science of Body Over Mind

Amazing advice for our future health
The author puts forward some really interesting information and research about the benefits of movement for body and mind. I really believe the author is on to something and she has definitely convinced me to move more, be it through activities like gardening and walking through to exercise and trying new activities that will challenge my body and mind.

Very readable for a non-scientist!
Readable and interesting. A good overview of some of the latest theories about the mind and body connections. As a Pilates teacher this has given me food for thought and links to my existing knowledge and beliefs about the value of moving for physical and mental health. Nice summary of key take-home points at the end of each chapter.

A compelling book that will help you enjoy your body!
Concise, accessible and amusing. I really appreciate how Caroline has drawn upon the latest science that puts our bodies back into the limelight for mental health and overall wellbeing. The books ends with a simple Movement Manifesto that is structured to help people of all ages.A great read.

Interesting but overly preachy
Yeah, I get it: moving is good for me. But this writer spoils her interesting exposition of some of the science around the mind/body interrelationship by never missing an opportunity to urge the reader to do the thing she is on about.I'm reading a book! It's really rather hard for me to dance or jump around at the same time and anyway I'm pretty rubbish at these things.I'm half way through and will persevere to the end but I doubt this will ever get re-read.

Groundbreaking!
For too long we have thought of the body and mind as independent from one another - Caroline blows this fallacy out of the water and reinforces how important movement is for our cognition. Everybody should read this book - twice!

accessible and inspiring evidence for moving more
This book is an engaging read with very doable and evidence based alternatives to couch potatoism. Well worth a read.

Important to move
The message is scarily clear - that our sedentary lifestyle is detrimental to health. I was shocked to read how children are demonstrably less agile and strong than a generation ago. Fascinating links between cognition, emotion and exercise. My big caveat though, which meant I ended up skim-reading, is the use of animal experiments as evidence, often trivial when the case is well-made with other research. Distressing to read of the casual use of kittens, monkeys. How do those scientists sleep at night?

Mostly generalizations from small studies and anecdotes
I could not finish it - as a scientist there was way too much over generalization, and making big conclusions out of small research studies or mere anecdotes.

A vida é o corpo
A autora faz um bela revisão dos conhecimentos acumulados que apontam para a necessidade de estarmos sempre em movimento. Não, como é usual, durante o lazer, mas durante toda a nossa rotina diária.

Easy to read, fascinating, useful
I work in the fitness industry so it was bound to interest me from the get-go but because it’s such an easy read with some big take home messages, I think it would be a great one for our clients and public at large to dive into. The stories are fascinating and her open and honest approach around the research, or in some cases, the lack of it, is refreshing. If you get the audible version as well the voice is super easy to listen to too. In a nutshell I loved it and have recommended it wide and far.

Get off your arse
Great stories and exciting new research. Western science is finally reconnecting our bodies to our brains, finding that way too much sitting is seeing a drop in our IQs and exacerbating mental illness. Turns out all we have to do is move more and sit less! Occasionally convoluted explanations of scientific processes but overall very readable.
