A beast from Abus
I’ve been searching high and low for the right high security chains and high security locks to use with the chains that would give me peace of mind in locking my e-bike hyper-scrambler. The problem I kept running into was finding the correct chain length / chain thickness to go around my bike frame through my wide front tire and around an object. That in itself wasn’t a problem with the Abus 8ks chain, that was until I attempted to find a decent (mostly unpickable) high security padlock that would fit said chain. After trying a few solid locks and realizing they all had one fatal flaw (Stanley Lock: solid design/easily picked, Abus 37k/60: really great lock/difficult to pick/shackle clearances only 5/16”) I started to get sick of trying to find the right combination of lock/chain.With that said I was initially trying to avoid spending 200$ on a lock chain combo, like the Abloy Protec2 / Abus 8ks, so I stumbled upon this chain/lock on Abus website and was surprised it fit all my requirements (solid chain, good length, and difficult to pick cylinder lock). Its on the bit of the pricey side, but considering the fit and finish of it, and comparatively adding the cost of a similar chain and a padlock like the 37rk/80, I personally think it was worth it.Pros: Fit and finish is superb, hefty and feels very secure, chain length is enough to secure my bike, key card allows all other Abus locks to get keyed the same if so desired.Con: Its hefty, and requires the key in the shackle to lock it, which can add a layer of difficulty in securing your bike.Another consideration I was loenough length and anti-pick deterrence (cyclinder core) to lock my e-bike hyperscrambler

How I justified my purchase.
This chain lock is the optimum compromise for security. I have an expensive Ebike and it seems that these are becoming the prime target for bike thieves. So there are 3 areas of concern. First, costl. I was going to buy insurance but it was more expensive than the most expensive lock I could find. So the high price of this lock is easily justifies since, When I come back to where I locked my bike there will still be a bike. Insurance can not do that. Second is the weight. It is heavy but falls toward the high side of the middle of the pack. The next size downs, is Abus 1010 which is 9mm thick links and about 2 lbs less wieght. Probably sufficient, but for the extra two pounds, I get peace of mind, knowing that for my circumstances, no one will take my bike. Less than 9mm, you might as well get a cable and wonder if your bike will be there for you on return. You could lower the weight by getting a shorter chain, but this length will lock both wheels to the frame and a large pole, or both my bike and my wife's easily, so the length is important. To that point. I have tried U locks, but they are a pain to transport where a chain will fit almost any bike or pack. I just fold mine and lay it on the pannier carrier over the rear wheel attached with some Velcro. So if the peace of mind of knowing that a thief will see this beefy lock and move on is worth the slight difference in weight, this is a good choice. Third is which brand, Krytonite or Abus. I considered others, but after reading review after review and holding both in hand, the choice to go with Abus was easy. This is personal as both companies make good products, but the lock mechanism of the Abus seemed to get more love on the internet. Is it perfect for everyone in all circumstances. NO. I would not leave my bike out in NY City over night with this, but for my suburban community, during the day, I will go see a movie or walk around town or the park or walk a trail and feel that my ride home is still waiting for me.

Great Size - love the light feature
I store my bike outside (I live in a major urban city) and had my last bike stolen at the end of last summer :(During my new bike search I also exhaustively search for securing bikes. I read all the reviews, ratings and tips of how to and what to use, this is one of the highest recommended bike chain locks for my scenario. I love the length because I can double wrap the chain (through the tire and the frame) the light feature is bright enough and the lock mechanism is top notch.

Security from theft
Very strong chain and length is perfect for locking up both of out Rad Power Bikes together. Needed something thieves could not cut with bolt cutters and manufacturer said this is the one.

Worth th expense
These chains are covered so they do not scratch your machine. Supple and not cumbersome. They weigh a bit, but I got the chain to attach my mtn bike to my vehichle so weight isn't an issue. I bought three chains that total 13 ft. Expensive, yes, but my bike is many time more expensive. I can go into a restaurant and be confident my bicycle will be there when I come out.

Does what it's supposed to do
It's definitely strong, sturdy and heavy. I use it on an electric bike so it goes in a basket and I don't have to deal with how to carry it on the bike, without the basket, carrying a 5 foot, heavy chain would be a definite problem. I had a shorter chain( 3 feet) and it worked ok, but I had to look around for something which wasn't too large to chain it to, plus I couldn't lock both front and rear wheels at the same time. 67 inches is long enough to get both wheels locked through a sturdy pole or bike rack. I'm taking off one star because you have to fight a bit with the lock to unshackle it, I lubed it with a graphite lock specific lubricant and that helped a lot.

Great bike protection!
This is probably the most secure bicycle chain available, rated in Europe at 15. I use it for my folding bicycle and it is long enough to wrap around the frame and through both wheels to secure it to a fixed object. The chain weighs eight [8] pounds and is 170 cm long [5'8"]. Bike thieves will most likely ignore my bike, as the work required to break the chain is greater than opportunities elsewhere. Cables are easily cut, this chain is not. And in Europe, Abus is a known quantity. They make quality security products, and this is one of their finest. The US security levels are 10 maximum and this far exceeds that rating. I like their products and the German engineering shows. Thank you Abus!
