Thin enough to get under the nails for cleaning but thick enough to feel sturdy unless dropped on a hard surface. I’ve tried a lot of glass files and have been happy with this one.

Q: Hoe long, on average, does one of these nail files last?

Well... forever. The surface is etched in, not sprayed on. I have the first one I ever bought and its the same as when I bought it. Mont Bleu files are the gold standard of glass files. They're pretty sturdy, the only way mine have gotten broken is by my son stepping on my purse. The clear ones are my favorite, I think they're a finer grit than the colored ones, but those are still perfect too. I'll never use another file.
