I took a gamble
Just to let you know about our equipment, thus the range. We have a 2016 F150 Lariat, Super Crew and 6.5’ bed, and we tow a 2016 Airstream trailer, 27’. Our overall length is 49’.I really did not want the hassles of installing a rear camera, with wiring, drilling outside holes and having a dash monitor likely needing dangling wires. I was not very interested in watching traffic behind while driving.I simply wanted a backup camera for help in backing into camp sites. My wife is back there with walkie talkie or iPhone to guide me.My gamble with this hitch camera was would the camera connect to my iPad in the driver’s seat. Not only the distance between them, but through the aluminum trailer. Answer- it does work most of the time. Not sure why not all the time. As we arrive in a campground, and look over the site, we place the camera on the markings I placed on the rear bumper compartment, connect the camera wifi, and proceed. We just came back from a week long trip. But the camera can serve other uses too, maybe even better than for just backing up. I thought to place the camera on the ground to both back up onto leveling blocks and to drive off them! Normally, I have a spotter, but the camera did that function. Also on this trip, the toilet had a leak on the backside where I could not see the issue with the water supply piece. I did think of using the camera to see what was back there...later, but not before I fixed the issue. So in cases where I cannot see, I could use this camera to help. Thus, I am excited more than I ever thought. Gamble paid off!

RV Hitch camera
There was a poorly copied sheet that had a QRS code to get an app that is supposed to work and a list of 8 steps. Turn it on. Turn wifi on. Scan networks. Locate camera wifi network. Open app. You're all set. Nope. No picture. Tried plugging it in (only has a USB cable, no charger), does not transmit when it's plugged in. I'll let it charge overnight and see if that helps and update when I know. After charging overnight I finally got it to connect. At least, I got it to connect to my iPad. Not so lucky on my iPhone. I went out to hook up to the RV this morning and only had my iPhone. No video. When I brought it back into the house I was able to connect to the pad with no problems. Needless to say I'm not totally satisfied but at least I got it to work. The good, it has a magnetic base so I can simply place it on my 5th wheel hitch or roof of the truck to allow guidance to hook up. And after all, that was why I bought it. But for $150 I would expect a lot more information and a manual of some sort (or at least a link to get the manual online). The low light capabilities seem good, I tested it in a dark room and was still able to see most of the room.It says on the box it is waterproof, but the charging port seems to be wide open. There is a cover for the port but it took me 5 minutes of fiddling with it to get it to cover the port completely. Finally, I would recommend this camera with reservations. Make sure you charge it completely before first use. I plugged it into my computer to charge it since there was no charger with the camera, but I'm sure any USB charging block should work. If you can't connect to your phone try the "iRearCam" app. This was suggested to me by the camera's customer support and it works fine with my phone. Get the app installed prior to turning it on, then turn on the camera and connect to the cameras wifi with your tablet or phone.

Great so far!
It just arrived today and I've had a few moments to make sure it works. As others have said, the app does NOT LIKE MOTOROLA! I have a Moto phone and decided to try it out since it's newer than the versions mentioned but still did not work. And that was fine with me since it does not need a data connection or cell connection of any kind, I am using my previous phone, an LG, for the monitor. There was a charge on the camera when it arrived, it powered on just fine. I installed the RoadVue 2.0 app with no problems. Connected phone to camera signal then opened the app and taadaaa a nice view of my ceiling fan. I have yet to try it on my vehicle but I will soon. I do not anticipate any problems but will add to my review after I have checked it out. I also plan on using it on the very back of my camper to help get it backed in next to my house. I will also update that experience as well. And thanks to those who answered my question about how this works, regarding if I needed cell service on the monitor phone!!EDIT: 11/25/19 Still working very well. I was not able to use it to back my camper in as the signal does not reach from there into my vehicle. It works great for getting lined up to the hitch though and that was the main reason I wanted it.

Works GREAT for hitching up or vehicle use - Read further if buying for a travel trailer or long motorhome.
Clear picture with the yellow lines for backing up similar to a vehicle would have - this wasn't mentioned, so it was a surprise. We have a pick up truck with an 14ft popup trailer - the camera wifi signal DIDN'T reach the cell phone inside the truck when mounted to the bumper of the travel trailer, but my husband thought to mount the camera to the top of the a/c unit which put it a little closer; worked great. This would be a lot more interesting if we didn't have a low profile popup. I should note I haven't used it in in the field yet, just to back up at home. Install was basically downloading an app, charging the camera and turning it all on. No setup required! Looking forward to field-testing soon!Update: We've since switched to RV and Camera works better w/ 25 ft RV than did w/ Pop Up trailer? Go figure, but Great!By the way: For all those wondering about the strength of the magnet during NORMAL suggested use: While I don't advise this- I can officially attest that this little guy UNINTENTIONALLY stayed attached to the back of my RV for a 70+ mile trip from LA to TX!! Potholes and All!
