Originally, I posted that the sand picture I received had more water than sand (and therefore, did not make anything close to peaks). I wanted to give this to a child with Down syndrome for Christmas.The seller contacted me by email right away to apologize and offered me a new sand picture and 20% off. She explained that these items are hand made.Aside from the issue related to texture, the product seems well made and does not leak. It has a nice-looking sturdy frame.Looking forward to receiving the replacement! Thank you.Update 12/12/18:I received the replacement rather quickly (thank you for the $5 + change discount).Unfortunately, the replacement is much the same as the original. After I followed all directions related to position, mixing and shaking, the sand picture is still watery. It’s basically a watery sand picture in a decent frame (that you can’t even recycle. More plastic for the landfill.

This is the perfect product for someone trying to find their “happy place” at home or in the office as this is the perfect size for a desk or bookshelf. There is something so satisfying about how this makes unique sand mountains each time you flip it over. The instructions can be slightly difficult to understand, but once you play with it a few times you will get the hang of it.As the item is made from glass, I would not recommend it for young ones as one drop means that water, sand, and broken glass will be all over the floor..EDIT 9/16/19It looks like water has been slowly leaking out over time as there is now more air than water inside the picture. The sand is basically stuck on the bottom, so now we have a picture frame filled with sand...Would not recommend.

I had something similar a long time ago. I liked it and decided to buy this. I bought the medium sized one because I thought the small (5" x 7") would be too small. It turns out that the "active" area of the medium size is 5" x 7". The other one I had also had a swivel stand that would allow it be flipped over and the angle could be changed. This one just has a couple stand clips that are kind of annoying to use. I probably should have looked more closely. Overall, disappointed.

We ordered 5 of these things for Christmas, some purple and some blue. I have had it now over 4 months. My husband and I each have one at our desks and we both love these things and think they are so cool. My coworkers come by and flip it, shake it, and stare. It is so mesmerizing! At first you wonder if it’s defective because it has air bubbles, but it soon becomes clear WHY it has air bubbles. I love the contrast of the white and black sand with the blue or purple, and they each have just a little bit of sparkle that catches in the sunlight. They are very good quality and we have had no problems with any of them.

I ordered this to replace one we had years ago that entertained our kids and grandkids but eventually got broken. That one would move and shift at an entertaining pace and made great mountain peaks. This one, not so much. It moves very slowly and it doesn't make many defined peaks. I will keep it but I don't find myself drawn to it like I was the older one we had.

It's pretty fast falling and mine doesn't create peaks like pictured. The sand leaves a fine dust that makes the water murky until it all settles. I gave it 4 stars because it has 99.9% of the water in it unlike others I've purchased that looked like a dried up lake. The stand it comes with is perfect, and the frame is pretty too. It's nothing high end fancy, but for the price point I think it's a good value. The purple shades are beautiful!

My mom wanted one of these moving sand pictures for Christmas and after lots of looking, I decided on this one. She really likes it. the color is nice and it's made some really pretty designs. How fast the sand falls can vary (sometimes it fell real fast, other times it took a while), and we've had a few issues with the sand getting stuck or blocked, but it overall works well and makes for a nice gift.

Really awesome product. I cannot emphasize enough to follow the directions. If you make sure all the air bubbles are even across the top of the frame then turn it over in one swift, even motion, you will enjoy countless beautiful landscapes. Have only had it a couple of days, but well worth the money so far. I have the 8.66 X 6.9 in purple and bought the same size in blue for my grandfather who is restricted 75 - 80% of the time to bed. I will let you know how it goes for him once he has a chance to try it.
