Just pure fun. A wonderful read. Could not wait for the second book to come. Gerri Hill is so good.

Just What I've Been Missing
As I've been reading books this year for Jae's Sapphic Reading Challenge I've sorely missed books in the horror genre. I like some of my reads to have more than one type of bump in the night and this book filled the bill 😉. I found the story compelling and the dread factor was very good. Both main characters were likable and I found their camaraderie with their coworkers entertaining.I see myself re-read ing this book in the future.

Loved the last page... leaves you wanting ;-)
I thought this was a really great book. Obviously Gerri Hill is one of the best there is for the kind of books I am interested in. I always know if I curl up with one of her books I will come through the end very very satisfied.~Focusing on this book in particular though... Go into it with an open mind people. If you are open-minded you will squeeze out all of the good thing this book has to offer. Suspense, Humor, Attraction, Love, Sex, Friendship, etc...~I do have to say one part really made me sad. I won't be specific but there is a character I really fell for and was rooting for that doesn't get a happy ending... unless Gerri pulls out some wicked sequel that squashes the event I'm speaking of, which is possible.~Anyway folks, what I'm trying to say is Gerri Hill is always worth the risk... so go for it and take a chance.~One last thing... this book has the best last scene I have read in awhile. It put a huge smile on my face and revved me up for a second helping. More please Gerri, more, more, more.

Intense, Suspenseful, Sexy Main Characters
Paige and CJ are two FBI agents who are about as opposite you can get but who also have a one night stand hanging over their heads. Only it’s more complicated than a simple drunken night. Meanwhile, their 4 person team investigates a secluded small town in east Texas where college students and tourists have gone missing. It’s been years since I’ve had actual nightmares and this book reset my clock, because I woke up at 3am with the whole pounding heart, where am I state of mind. Truthfully, I couldn’t say if it was the violence or the creep factor or if it was CJ’s back story that was the trigger. CJ’s history of childhood abuse will horrify you so be aware before picking up this book if that’s a big no. As tragic as her story is, it also is what intensifies CJ and Paige’s relationship to max level. So I recommend because the mc’s are wonderful, their FBI partners are also great, and the suspense is tight but boy oh boy, be ready for the craziness.

Missing women, monsters, murders & Mother Hogan
Definitely not the story I was expecting after reading the description… but like, wow, was this a really, really, really good book!!An action-packed, entertaining story with intriguing characters & steamy scenarios set in a fantastically unbelievable yet totally riveting plot line. It was an extremely enjoyable & engaging book.

Not really into the cult thing...good writing though
I find that Gerri Hill's books, like others are usually hit or miss. It all depends on what your looking for, with this book I found the romance lacking. I don't know about anyone else, but the chemistry between CJ and Paige was just not there.***Minor Spoiler Alert***I guess the chemistry was lacking because six months prior Paige and CJ had a one-night stand that they tried to pretend did not happen, despite the fact that they both enjoyed it IMMENSELY. Then they end up having to go undercover at an all-girls boarding school making everything even more awkward. Sure during those six months they were able to still work together, and banter back and forth but with the underlying tension. Then they get thrust into this weird undercover assignment and things just get weirder...and culty....yeah.The odd behavior of the residents in the "compound/town" was creepy, and Gerri certainly had that part down. The goings-on in Hoganville were definitely weird and this book was more suspense rather than romance. I guess I expected a similar vibe to Gerri's other book Hunter's Way. However, since these two characters had a brief past, and did not want to be romantically involved, the romance/chemistry was just not there. They were attracted to each other, absolutely, but no real feelings grew except maybe during CJ's telling of her past to Paige after a hot strap-on scene. Yes, the sex is hot every single time, but I guess I wanted more romance.3 stars because the cult case overshadowed any romance, even though the case was an interesting one. 3 stars because Gerri is certainly a good writer, no complaints there at all. But ONLY 3 stars because the cult topic itself is dark and just too weird for me, and as I said, I wanted more romance.

Yay for lesbians! Hill's best one!
Alright, this is Hill's best one! Yep!It's the typical brunette and blonde couple that she favors, but I like the dynamic between these two the best. It's not a typical attraction where one or both instantly pursues the other. Instead, there's a tension between the two from the start, because we are introduced to these characters long after they have known each other and have had time to muck things up for themselves.I love the otherworldly aspect to this novel because it provides a fun twist on the typical lesbian romance novels! The set up of these two having to pretend to be a couple seemed a bit convenient, but it was believable!Exciting, suspenseful and you should give it a read!

Fun, fast paced & hot mystery
This was one of the first lesbian fiction books that I read that got me hooked, hooked, hooked on Bella Books Authors. Two detectives, with a past of their own, are partnered together to investigate a disappearance. CJ Johnson and Paige Riley go undercover and work together to solve the case. Along the way, they realize this isn't a standard investigation. Things are weird to begin with and get more strange as they get closer to the truth. The two don't do a very good job of avoiding their attraction to each other which makes for not only a thrilling read, but also a hot one too! I loved this book and hope you do too!

‘Off the wall’, but good fun
This is a real mix of genres, and all with a very good (and often very funny) romance holding everything together – 4 StarsFollowing a particularly gruelling case, FBI agents, C J Johnston and Paige Riley, blocked-out the horrors they’d faced by spending the night in bed together. After weeks of awkwardness, they’d finally settled back into their routine, neither of them mentioning ‘That night’ again. However, when their next case involves going undercover as a couple, anxieties about ‘That night’ resurface. Little do they realise, on this assignment, ‘That night’ is going to be the least of their worries…At the heart of this book is a super romance. Staying in a one-bedroom cabin on an isolated school campus, the pressure to maintain their cover as a couple soon begins to tell. Paige sets rules, and CJ (being CJ) just has to at least bend them. The problem is, the longer they’re together, the less sure Paige is that she wants to stick to the rules either. What ensues is a typically classy Gerri Hill romance – and it’s a very good one.Counterpoint to the romance there is also the assignment that Paige and CJ are working. I’m not even going to attempt to explain what goes on! Suffice to say it involves a mix of crime, horror, and the supernatural. Be prepared, it’s very different from previous books by this author. Exciting, cute, and more than a little crazy, ‘Keepers of the Cave’ might be weird, but it’s certainly not dull.

A good read
I enjoyed this trip into a mixture of crime and a touch of supernatural. Missing people, small and isolated community, weird school, cult-like leader, strange powers, odd rituals and sacrifices, and something unknown but frightening in the woods... this book had it all. It might have been just a touch too much because there were a lot of ends to tie together and I think the plot struggled a little towards the conclusion. However it was an exciting and intriguing read. I got through it in a single sitting because it was a page turner. It seems Gerri Hill can turn her hand to anything. Definitely a good read.

Unusual
Not the usual type of book we get from Ms Hill and therefore it is important to remove any preconceived notions of what to expect. It starts as an routine missing persons case where two agents are sent undercover. For me, this is where the book became bogged down - a lot of pages about the relationship that was waiting to explode betwen the two and very little of interest about the case - this imbalance spoiled it a bit for me. There are only so many "long lingering look" moments between two other people before it becomes a touch embarrasing to the third party and at times I felt like a voyeur. Then we have the actual case and for me it needed more intrigue about what was in the woods and it lacked the scare factor. I felt that this was a real shame as it could have earned 5 stars had I felt any tremor of "Don't go into those woods" - but I didn't, in fact, I wanted them to go so the story got some impetus. It would be unfair to say that I didn't enjoy it, I did but just not as much as most of Ms Hill's other books. Having said that, I applaud her for trying something different and hope that she never stops writing.

Great Read!!!!!
I must say i have read all but most of Gerri's books and this was an absolute refreshing change. I have to give 5 for the story albeit a bit wacky and out of the norm for Gerri but it had me laughing all the way, especially the scene in the woods with all the tough detectives and a raving monster!!!!!! I had a picture in my head of all the characters like some bizarre B movie, it was fab!!!!!One thing i Do have to comment on though is the ever so predictable here we go again storyline for the 2 leading ladies! its always the SAME!!!!!!! you can see it coming before you even start!!! having said that i do love Gerri's books and have, to be fair, read them all and enjoyed them. Every so often you get the odd one that has flashes of brilliance. Another personal favourite is The Cottage, i even shed a tear!!!!!!If your a fan you will love it, if, in the middle its another predictable book from Ms Hill which will while away a few nights bedtime reading. Worth a few quid!

Loved it and the new genre
I loved this new story line. Lesbian Romance Crime Horror.. new genre on me. I was quite shocked by the negative reviews. yes its a new direction, but cant authors try something different?I couldn't take the horror too seriously, found it more tongue in cheek than Stephen King frightening - think X files, but with a smoldering Scully that the seemingly uptight Paige finds hard to resist.Love CJ and Paige, fun new characters, typical exaggerated but recognisable lesbian romance.. fancying the pants of each other (literally) but refusing to deal with it, and then just not being able to resist the pull.Look forward to more of them, their team and their wacky cases and watching what Gerri does next with their odd romance.
