I purchased both the front and back shell sold by the same company so my review reflects my experience with both.Modding controllers can be pretty nerve wracking but it's absolutely doable. This shell in terms of quality was better than I expected and while it's not real wood it's a nice enough fake. I was surprised because the front and back shells are sold separately but the grain on both pieces still matches up really well. Now for what I didn't like and this may just be an issue with how I assembled. The sections where the two shells join on the grips where your palms rest aren't flush and is a noticable defect when you're playing. This is a pretty common issue around aftermarket shells so keep that in mind. The design of the PS4 controller itself doesn't do this any favors as well. Not a huge complaint but I have a lot of sensory issues so that's my problem. I would also make sure you have the right model controller to match with this shell. I tried digging through the reviews before purchase but I couldn't find an accurate model number. The controller I was modding was a model CUH-ZCT2U when this shell seems like it was made for a CUH-ZCT1U (if I have that right). This may be the real reason the shells didn't fit totally flush but again that's my fault. The main difference between the 2U and the 1U is that the rubber padding on the PS button for the 2U controllers is held in place by two pegs much like the other buttons but the 1U just has the padding stretched over the PS button housing. This may sound like nonsense but if you pull apart a PS4 controller you'll see what I mean. Again this isn't a big issue and I was able to make it work regardless but it's something to keep in mind.10/10 would definitely recommend. Will likely buy another shell for my personal controller as this one was for a Christmas gift.

It's good, but know what you're getting into
1) DOUBLE CHECK THAT YOUR CONTROLLER IS SUPPORTED! The majority of the negative reviews here are people that didn't do the due diligence of looking what controller they had. Double check to know it will work.2) If you've never taken something apart before, this may not be for you. You will need to remove a couple of ribbon cables and navigate around the internals of the controller. If this doesn't sound doable for you, then just don't buy this.3) It is not 100% perfect. I bought a blue fire and a flaming skull for my kids to give them custom controllers. Both of them had their pros and cons but they fit about 98% as well as the original controllers. In one case I needed to prop up the options and share buttons, and in the other I had to do extra work to flex the seems into place appropriately. After these small extra actions the shells fit very well, look really cool, and function perfectly.

Great replacement shell
Was really holding off buying a third party shell because usually they don't fit that good. Went ahead and bought this one because of the soft feel of the controller skin and really liked the looks of it. Made sure to check if I had the right motherboard for this install before buying, yes had to take apart the controller first but it's not a big deal. Went together smoothly, well had trouble getting the touchpad cable back through the plastic that the main board sits on, but that's it. Works great and thinking of buying another for my other controller on my second PS4 because I liked this so much.Yes the purple thumbstick is custom one that I always put on my PS4 controllers because the stock ones suck and lose grip after awhile.

Looks Sharp, Worth it
Mostly great, worth buying. The install was relatively easy. Really, nothing to be intimidated by. Can with the tools you need but I recommend also having tweezers and a very small file. I had sand around the share and options button for them to fit better. Only took a few seconds to do. The pad behind the PlayStation button is secured differently but works just fine. Everything else went together just fine. It’s not a perfect factory fit. You can feel the edge in one spot but nothing worth being upset by. I installed this on the original controller door a first gen PS4. Works get, looks great. I also took the time to clean the whole thing while it was apart and I also watched a video tutorial before had. All in all around 15 minutes with cleaning. Not bad.

Cool design, bad execution.
Do I like the shell? Yes. However getting it to fit was another matter on its own entirely. The case labels it fits models JDM-55 which my controller was. However the inside differed from the inside of the stock shell. There were issues getting it to fit snugly, then it’s not balanced on the edges. And even when I got it to fit the thumb sticks kept getting stuck causing drifting when you move the stick. So I had to loosen the screws to get it to stop sticking Under the shell, I was about to start sanding it down, but I loosened the screw inside the motherboard that attached to the shell and it stopped sticking under it. Even then it was all out together correctly but now the buttons aren’t popping up as much. They are much closer to the board than they are supposed to be along with the D pad. So it doesn’t have as much press as it should you don’t even hear clicks, that’s how close the buttons are. Not sure if the shell is raised too high compared to the stock shell but the buttons don’t pop up as much. The shell looks cool but when you have to take it apart and put it together multiple times till it’s right then we got problems. And I’ve customized lots of controllers so I know for a fact it wasn’t me doing it wrong as I’ve done it for multiple different models over the years.
