Upper Elementary Challenge Math

Zacarro has done it again!!
This is an excellent bridge between "Elementary grade math" and "Challenge Math For the Elementary and Middle School Student". The latter book is a book jump from Elementary grade math and can be frustratingThis book makes it easier for 4th graders to follow. You need adult guidance on some of the chapters. But for some of the chapters like Probability, the students themselves can complete the problem sets and levels on their own, without any adult input. I guess it depends on the student's ability and interest. But the main thing is there is variety and challenge. Plus the number of problems are just right - enough to gain mastery but not too much to get bored.

A fun challenge
I am a homeschool mom and college math professor. One of my boys has a talent for math that makes most math curriculum basic and repetative. He and I worked through Primary Challenge Mathematics during 2nd and 3rd grade. After he finished Singapore Math 4, we spent the remainder of the year on Upper Elementary Challenge Mathematics.Today, after filling 4 pages of pattern work, he said, "There are so many ways to do math. It's magnificent!" This book truly is the music. It's a challenge, and it's fun.

Good and interesting contents but problems can be arranged according to levels.
I used the book for my math enrichment class that consists of 3rd and 4th gr. The contents are great and interesting. However I prefer the problem sets arranged in different levels (like that in elementary challenge Math) rather than one set with all levels. That makes it hard for me to assign work. When I use the other book I usually ask younger student to do level 1-2 and older ones do additional higher level ones.

Good, clear explanations for how to tackle a variety ...
Good, clear explanations for how to tackle a variety of math problems given in an interesting, child-friendly way. There's more depth and challenge to the problems than in a normal text, so we like this for enrichment. As a comparison to the regular Challenge Math book, I'd say this UE version is slightly simplified for a younger audience and has more practice and problem sets than the original, which could be a pro or con, depending on what you're looking for.

Absolutely Fantastic
I normally never review anything, however, I simply had to review this item. This is my second Zaccaro book for my kids. I can't say enough good things about this author. He really understands the beauty of math and has a great way of presenting the concepts for the kids to understand and apply in daily use. What a tremendous book. Way to go, Edward Zaccaro

Differentiating Math for High Achieving Upper Elementary Math Students
This book is suitable for very high achieving upper elementary math students. (Grades 4-5). I found myself taking 15 minutes to solve one of the level 3 problems. I don't think most kids in these grades would be able to solve the problems; however, it would be suitable material for extremely high math kids.

This book was perfect. The graphics provided just enough explanation for independence
When differentiating for math, I believe that children should not just "go ahead" or "help others". Instead, I look for materials to delve deeper into the concepts. This book was perfect. The graphics provided just enough explanation for independence.
