Great smokey flavor
Can use whole to season meals and then remove, or can cut fine or crush to leave in meals. Creates a wonderful, deep smokey flavor.

Add a delicious camp fire to your meals. Wonderful smokiness! Package has no information.
I had forgotten which order this was and the Amazon sticker on the back was greatly truncated, so I was initially annoyed that the package said nothing more than “AseLife EnergyTM” No name of the product. No nutrition information. No story of origin. No suggested use. No anything at all. However, once I opened the package, it was heavenly smokiness. Fortunately, the listing does have a picture of what should be on the package itself. Use that as your starting point. These do add a great smoky pepperiness to dishes. They are unlike any pepper I’ve had otherwise – whether the others include the word “smoky” or not. Definitely worth trying.

Unique smokey flavor
This is my first time dealing with Selim, and I'm definitely a fan now. The first thing you notice is the strong smokey aroma in the bag, followed by a variety of other fragrances. I chewed on one of the pods and found a smokey flavor to match the aroma, followed by heat and a very slight taste reminiscent of black pepper.A coffee grinder does a great job of breaking the pods up into a powder and a bunch of small fibrous stands. I just pick out the strands, but a screen would work great too. I tried the ground Selim on grilled pork with my usual rub and found it adds a nice unique flavor and a lasting heat afterwards. I'm going to enjoy experimenting with this, it's not like anything I've had before.

great value, special and potent spice!
I am very impressed with this spice. I am fairly new to cooking with west African spices, but I am glad that I am trying out this Selim Pepper. The flavor and aroma are unlike any spice used in North America, but it is unique and very pleasant. The first thing I thought of when I opened the bag was Scotch Whiskey because it has a smoky, musky, eucalyptus or turpentine (in a good way!) smell, and pairs well with roasted foods and drinks. Indeed, making cafe touba was my main reason for ordering, but you get so much and I am excited to add it to other things. So far, I really enjoy adding a bit smashed or ground into certain teas, especially fermented/black and smoked oolong/green teas. I'm also infusing some oil with it and other spices so I can easily add it to meats and other foods.

Unique and good flavor
I love cooking and trying new spices, and this Selim Uda Pepper is a nice addition to the spice cabinet. I added it to jerk chicken seasoning and I liked the extra smokiness it added. I am also going to try this in my next curry because I think the flavor will go good as well. The pods are very good quality, they seem well dried and are whole with no broken bits.

Great smoky flavor - medium heat
I ordered this pepper to 'spice' up my meat marinades. It has a really full smoky flavor to add a level of flavor notes you don't get without smoking the meat. It also has a bit of a kick where the heat comes on slow and then builds. It's unlike anything else in my pantry and I really like how it's spiced up my chicken and meat dishes. It comes in a resealable bag and they can also be ground up and added to dishes.

Flavorful
This is a high-quality package of selim pepper (also known as "Senegal pepper," and a lot of other names, though it's not actually a form of black pepper but a totally different spice used in several African cuisines). The pods are whole and well-dried with a strong, pleasantly smoky flavor similar to black cumin. A great choice for culinary variety and flavor. Recommended.
