This upgrade router machine is equipped with a 10000 rpm spindle.（The control board can support a 2000 rpm spindle. ）

How will this do engraving lettering on wood?

Yes, it will. The spindle is alright and the frame is rigid enough for most woods. Eventually you may want to upgrade the spindle and stiffen the frame (very inexpensive upgrades that will provide more accuracy).
