Girl Last Seen: A gripping psychological thriller with a shocking twist

Entertaining with a good twist
Main character is a little annoying in that she keeps everything inside and won't share. Good book, I had a hard time putting it down to go and do other things. I enjoyed the twist at the end. I did not see it coming.

Good character development.
It was an easy read but there were a lot of things missing. Lots of parts werenât connected and didnât have a smooth transition. I have more questions after reading the book. But great character development.

Could not put it down
After ending a series I was looking for a new book and came across Girl last seen, after reading the reviews I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. GLS is nothing like anything I've read lately I'd recommend to anyone. *spoilers/triggers*Laine AKA Ella Santos was a unfortunate soul whose life was turned upside down when she was a child. Kidnapped tortured abused but she lived. Thirteen years after her abduction another girl disappears and that girl ends up being her daughter, the child she gave up for adoption, the child that was conceived during her time in captivity. Laine is torn with how she feels she pretends that she doesn't care about poor Olivia but deep down her resolve is pushing her forward into the abyss to save her daughter from her fate. As Laine makes strides she begins to find herself and will not stop till she knows the truth not just Olivia's but her own. I had sneaking suspicion throughout the book of who done it but the book is so well written that anyone could have been the perp there was never a real front runner. Def keeps you on the edge of your seat. I look forward to more work by Nina Laurin.

A conflicting story
Girl Last SeenâTwo missing girls. Thirteen years apart.âI am sort of at a loss with this review. The book was really good, but I just didnât like it. The writing was great, the storyline was intense but there was something about the events that just didnât do much for me. I feel like I left the book with as many questions as when I started. This book follows the life of Lainey AKA Ella, who was kidnapped when she was a child and basically sexually abused and tortured for years before she was let go. She became pregnant, had a child, gave it up for adoption and then that child is now missing. The Detectives and the parents believe this is somehow connected to Lainey and she becomes part of their lives and helping them find Olivia.Due to all the horrible things that Lainey has been through, sheâs basically a drunk and a drug addict so it makes routing for her a bit tough. She had so many chances to clean up and be better, but she just never chose to, and I think that bothered me the most, especially with a little girls life on the line. When you finally realize who kidnapped âEllaâ all those years ago, it just doesnât feel satisfactory to me. All the things that happened to her when she was young, all could of been avoided if the mother had just been honest.I donât know. I never like giving bad reviews and I donât know if this is a bad review. This book just wasnât one of my favorites. It was a good read and was a crazy intense thriller and if thatâs up your alley then I would still say check this book out!

but reviews were really good, so started reading with a tinge of skepticism ...
Read this for book club. Saw it didn't have many reads yet, and was author's first novel, but reviews were really good, so started reading with a tinge of skepticism and a good dose of hope that I'd like it. Immediately drawn in. A little bit of a lag towards end of first third (or just because I got busy and was hard to have enough time to get back to it, but rest of book I wanted to keep reading... especially last third. First-time author wrote a nice, dark psycho-thriller that has enough going on, you're not sure where it's going. I seldom give 1 or 5's to anything, esp books and movies, unless in totally blown away or disgusted by my waste of time I put into viewing or reading it. . so if you think a 4 means it's not worth your time... it's really a 4.5. ;)

Truly Gripping Story
âGrippingâ thriller is such an overused term in describing books of this type, but in this case, undeniably accurate. The story grabs you from the beginning and is compelling until the end. Lainey struggles daily as she relives the horror of her past. Constant reminders with every new child abduction she hears about. The overall plot was great and the author does a great job of getting inside of Laineyâs head. The reader knows only what Lainey knows or is told. The only reason I give the book four and not five stars is that there were details missing- a few things never explained related to other characters in the story and a visit to a childhood home. Those details do not take away from the suspense or conclusion, but just unexplained.

Enjoyable Read
Lainey is still struggling emotionally and physically with the aftermath of her own kidnapping at aged 10. Having been inexplicably released, or more accurately dumped, on the side of the road 3 years later she has spent the last 10 years scrapping by in dead end jobs and battling addiction. She changed her name and tells no-one of her past seeking the anonymity to forget but she is swiftly thrown back into the glare and scrutiny of not just the press, but also the police and forced to relive her worst nightmare.Barely keeping her head above water she is suddenly forced to confront everything that happened to her as a child when the parents of a child who has gone missing in eerily similar circumstances seek her out for help finding their daughter. Trying her best to help the family find their missing little girl, but also looking for some answers to her own kidnapping she's dragging further into danger than she has ever been. Can she get the answers she needs while succeeding in getting both of them out alive and can she retain her sanity while doing so?Overall a good book. My only complaint would be that there are a few detours in the book that take you down paths that whilst padding out the story a little, don't actually add anything substantial to the tale and can be a little frustrating.

I'm finding it hard to write a review about this book as I have never read a story that puts the reader inside the head of the main character, her thoughts at times are jumbled and sometimes never made sense to me as a reader. I stuck at it and am glad that I did, it took me a few chapters to get into it but once i got the hang of how the story is written i found it gripping me and the ending came as a big surprise it wasn't what I expected. I will try more of this author's books.

Exciting
This book was a really great read. The story exciting and heartbreaking at same time. Loved all the characters, but especially Lainey. Wasn't expecting the twist at the end and it was so gripping that I read till 7am to find out what happened! Would definitely recommend this book. đđ
