Difficult subject, but an eye opening, educational book.
Quite difficult in portions and a sensitive topic, this is an eye-opening, well-written story. The author was attempting to bring this issue to attention and persuade people to, at the very least, think about the topic. The final chapter, which is not about the story but about slavery in general, illustrates how she intended this book to open eyes and, hopefully, effect a positive change. She also notes that, while the work as a whole is fiction, many primary characters and situations were based on first-hand knowledge, or some through her brother and friends. Many characters were based on actual people and happenings, used to illustrate the horrors of this situation. In a sense, some of the basic messages in this book could still be useful and educational in today's world.

Beautifully written prose enhances this classic story about the struggle for human rights, freedom and dignity that had so much impact on the progress of our country.

Must read
This is an historic book. Based on historical accounts and the evils of slavery. It is not a fast reading book. Old style of writing with pronounced writing so confusion maybe misunderstood in the conversations. However, the author gets the point across to the reader. I don't feel this book should be banned.

Tom’s Soul
Uncle Tom’s cabin is of course, an astonishing work of art. True literature!Until now, I had no idea what was actually in it. I knew it was about slavery, and the common slur, “An Uncle Tom,” which is associated with it. We are all, I suppose, familiar with that, but I was never quite sure what it meant. Now, in common parlance, if it has any fair relationship to the book, I have now no idea whatsoever. It must involve Tom’s commitment to acquiesce with any master's requirements or demands. But it did have its limits:Tom was unwilling to give up his soul, and in his unwillingness, engaged in much that might be considered to be rationalization. However, those rationalizations always adhered to irrefutable logic. Therefore, we understand the accusations of rationalization to be unfair. This, and I very much doubt that the author would disagree, is a Christian book, and tributes Tom’s commitment to his soul to Christian concepts. And I hope that she would agree with me, when I tribute Tom’s commitment to his soul to be, his commitment to his honor as a human being!

Need to read
Classic narrative of the horrors of slave trafficking and bondage confronting sparse humanitarian outposts where hope and kindness shine a hidden light. With fervent holy beliefs and love as the only weapons, a brave man fights evil with pious love. I'm so happy, I finally read this book. It inspires me to be kinder to everyone.

Uncle Tom
He had a strong Christian faith in God in spite of the realities of slavery in mid 1800’s. Quite a story by an abolishtionist who did a good job of showing how inhumane and ridiculous slavery was in most cases. Still don’t know why it was banned apparently in many places over the years…
