Both calibration vial arrived broken
The refractometer itself is great, I bought 2 of them. I am please and still consider it to be a vlaue purchase, however the cap on both vials of calibration oil were broken upon arrival. I purcashed a small bottle at hobby lobby and poured the oil into that bottle for future use.

Worked as it should
This is my first refractometer. I used it to measure the water content in honey. After a little trial and error to calibrate it, it was easy to use. Bright light makes it MUCH easier to read.

Very nice well packaged product.
Bought to test the moisture content of honey. This product came with pipettes, cleaning cloth, calibration fluid and screw driver.

Nice instrument, but poor instructions.
Used for measuring water content of honey. Seemed to work well. However the instructions are not clear on how to calibrate. The instructions say that the blue and white should "meet exactly on the standard scale." I interpreted that as calibrate to the center line. But you cant adjust that far. (hope I didnt damage it!) Only after reading the bottle of standard solution does it say 65%. It was probably exactly at that before I messed with it. So not sure now if its correct, because of temperature, etc. Also, there is no cleaning instructions. I hope washing the prism and flip cover in warm soapy water and drying with a soft cloth is ok.

Great instrument!
Accurately seems to judge water content of honey. Easy to use and clean. Highly recommend!

Easy to use and calibrate
I got this to measure the moisture content of my honey and to use in honey show competitions to assist my judging of entrants honey if the viscosity of honey is suspect.Product comes with a bottle of liquid that has a known viscosity #. Using the eyepiece aimed toward some light, you simply dial in and align the obvious blue indicator with that #. Done! This unit I have seen at trade shows for over $50! This is an incredible buy and worth a look if your in the market for one.
