Q: how does it detect leaks?

All fill valves have the "audible" leak detection feature. Fluidmaster has a fill valve that actually stops the float from going down with the water level if there is a leak. It works while you're in Hawaii and hear ocean waves and not your toilet.

Q: How does this device clean the toilet?

It doesn't clean the toilet, it cleans the inside of the tank. It does this by diverting some of the fill water through a tube that sits around the perimeter of the bottom of the tank. Water jets on this tube stir up sediment at the bottom of the tank so it can be flushed down the drain.

Q: I cannot adjust the height. I think it is not correct

I was also stumped by this at first. The trick is to push the little locking tab near the bottom while twisting the unit clockwise from the top. It will only turn about 1/4 turn. In this position the adjustment is unlocked and you can freely (with a little effort) pull it up or push it down. Once you get the top of the unit approximately even with the top of the tank, turn it clockwise 1/4 turn to lock it back in place.

Q: Toilet won’t always flush, it will fill the bowl with more water but won’t always flush?

Sounds like not moving enough water fast enough. Make sure the little hole below the water in the front of the bowl is not clogged. Rotate the adjustment on the float to raise the water level in the tank between a quarter and a half an inch. Staying below the overflow tube.
