This set is absolutely perfect. The pieces are all just the right weight, and have a nice protective felt on the bottom. The set also looks phenomenal, so I don't even put the pieces away and just leave it out decoratively on my table in between games. It's also super nice to have an extra queen for each player in case your pawn makes it across the field of battle. Highly recommend this set!

This is a very nice chess/checkers board, the alternating woods make a lovely pattern and all the pieces (both chess and checkers) have enough weight to them that even if you bump the board while you're playing, nothing is going to lose its spot or go flying. The latches that hold the set closed are absolutely NOT going to pop open unexpectedly.The chess pieces feel nice and solid. They're not bulky or super heavy, but they're not going to tip over if you accidentally brush against them, and they feel good and steady on the board and in my hand. They are held rather firmly in place by the foam that encapsulates them for storage, so that even when you're playing checkers (which means the chess pieces are hanging beneath the board from only the foam), nothing is going to fall out of the bottom of the board. As a bonus there's a second Queen of each color, for those who have a pawn that makes it to the opposite end of the board!Even the checkers themselves are surprisingly solid and heavy - I believe they're ceramic, covered in black or white enamel. They (the checkers) did look like they were taking on some marks just from a little bit of play/wear, but not to a degree that was going to bother me at all. The checkers aren't going to be held in place by the foam while you're playing chess, though.Overall, a set that is as lovely to look at as it is pleasing to hold. ONE look and my daugher said, "Ooh, that's pretty! Teach me how to play chess?"
