Bugs Are Insects (Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science 1)

As a parent I learned so much about bug and insects reading this book to my son. I learned how many body parts an insect has (three, the head, thorax, and abdomen), how many legs it has (six), that ladybugs are an insect closely related to the beetle family, and that scorpions are arachnids. This book as been perfect for my 4 year old son!

I bought "Bugs are Insects" for my grandson in the hopes that it will expand his view of the creepy-crawly realm. As a retired research and teaching entomologist I am well aware of the importance of insects. Since Anne Rockwell's book was recommended to me as the best book on insects to give to a four year old and I confirmed this when I received it, I am very hopeful that this will-written booklet will do the job. The short text and well-done color pictures should fascinate any starting reader. I recommend it highly.

I love this let's read and find out science series. I purchased this book for use with a science unit on living things for level 1 students (Ages 3-6). The book exceeded my expectations. The illustrations are fantastic. I am now looking for more books illustrated by Steve Jenkins--very impressive. Not only is the book great for science, I also use it for math, reading, and language arts. The author also lists several learning activities at the end of the book and she provides curriculum support websites for extention activities.

Overall, a good intro to insects. However, there is a mistake on page 25, grass hopper and cricket are mixed up.

I am a preschool science teacher and I have found this book to be incredibly helpful when we were learning about how living things are classified. When learning about invertebrates, this is the book to have! The language is age appropriate and the illustrations are excellent. My preschoolers love this book! They walk away with a lot of information that is easy to remember.

This book is another member of the Lets Read and Find Out series. It has great illustrations , and simple but informative text. It will be perfect for my class of 6 year olds with special educational needs.

Great book. Facts presented simply so they can easily be remembered. My grandkids are going through a bug loving phase so they enjoyed it.
