Pflueger President Spinning Fishing Reel

Great reel. It’s lightweight and feels durable. Cranking is smooth and so is the drag. Casting is smooth with braid. I wish this did have a bit more line capacity, but I recognize this is advertised as a primarily freshwater reel. I’ve given this as gift for saltwater fishing. Don’t hesitate to purchase if you can snag it for under $50.

This is a very nice reel. Lightweight, super smooth casting and retrieval. Handles light tackle(mini jigs) well. Braided line compatibility is good. A fine reel for any level of fishing experience, maybe the nicest for the cost.

Nice tight tolerances on the internal parts and good tiny bit of damping on the reeling action. Smooth drag that has a greased gasket under the drag dial to help keep rain and dirt out of the drag system. Drag clicker isn't too loud. This new 2024 model is overall better than the previous generation, which was smooth but still a tiny bit of slack inside. The new one has very little slack or wiggle in the crank system. The spool doesn't have holes in the side which is great. Also helps to keep rain and debris from getting onto the spool shaft. This reel also holds a ridiculous amount of braided line for a 4000 (40x) series sized reel. Way more than most 4000 series spinning reels on the market. This is great when you might hook into a fish much larger than expected and can still tire it out on big runs using lighter gear, just by having a crazy deep spool of line the fish can pull till tired out.

This is a very good product and I would buy another and another and another.

I have been using Pflueger President reels (of various models and versions) for close to 20 years. They've all held up well for me, required very little to no maintenance (other than keeping them clean and not left outside continuously exposed to the weather). At their LIST PRICE they are a bargain for what you get - a reliable, reasonable weighted reel, that perform well and does so consistently. Obviously, at their price, they are NOT the best spinning reel one can buy. My Shimano Stratic's and Shimano Vanfords are certainly superior reels - but also cost three times as much! Whether they perform three times better than the Pfluege President model - the answer is a resounding NO, not three times better or even two times better. For somebody just getting into fishing but who wants a reliable, decent quality reel that is going to last and not disappoint, I can recommend these most highly. My only complaint with the reels is that they used to come with a spare spool - which was great as it allowed one to have 2 spools with different line on each, for fast and easy change-outs. My recommendation to Pflueger is to market spare spools (or of course, better yet to include a spare one in the box). Secondly, I would like to see Pflueger indicate on the reel the size reel that it is, in an easy to see and visible location. Since I have multiples of these reels in many different sizes, this would be very helpful. Especially for fishing trips when rods/reels are broken down for transport - it helps to avoid putting the wrong sized reel onto a rod - only to realize this after getting on the water. Because the reels themselves, physically are not too different in physical size (at least at the 3000 and below size levels), this would be very helpful and appreciated (I am assuming by others as well). But to end this, YES, I highly recommend these reels. They punch way above their LIST price point. If you find them on sale, by them in multiples!

These are great reels. I've put them on several of my rods and have small to large versions. All work great. The only reels I use.

This reel is much smaller than a normal 2500 size reel but this reel is amazing. Smooth as butter. I wish I had bought two for the price I paid I fit 150 yards of 8lb braid on this little beast.
