Great printer, easy to set up
This is an excellent, well built, printer. We upgraded to an Epson ET-4856 Ecotank printer, from a previous Epson WF-4840 Ink jet printer, because the never-ending cost of replacing the ink cartridges was becoming a growing bugbear.Set up was quite easy (using the recommended Epson smartphone App), but takes quite a long time owing to filling up the ink tanks; upgrading the software and firmware; and waiting patiently while the printer self-calibrates. Best to set aside a couple of uninterrupted hours to complete the job if, like me, setting up new printers is something undertaken rarely. The firmware updates are best done from the printer itself, rather than from one's lap-top or desk top, as this overcomes issues with IP address conflicts. We found this out the hard way.The print quality is excellent, and the speed of printing (particularly double-sided printing) is perfectly acceptable. I also like the compact footprint.Downsides? Not many. I'd prefer a larger paper tray (this one holds only 150-200 pages or so), and it's quite noisy, but overall I'm well pleased with the purchase. If you undertake above-average volumes of printing, the hefty purchase price (about £350) is quickly mitigated by the savings in ink cost and the reduced hassle of forever changing the cartridges.Recommended.

Effortless Quality Printing
I've previously owned a wide range of types and brands of printers for home use over the years and all of them have been irritating in one way or the other in terms of long, noisy initiation and cleaning cycles, costly & inconvenient or messy ink replacement processes. It's all well and good reading the speed and quality specs before you buy a printer, but the true judge is how reliable it is, can you switch it on and print what you need to right then and there, every time, no technical issues, no ink clogging issues etc.I don't do a huge amount of printing, I considered going back to a laser printer because infrequent usage of inkjets invariably requires a lot of effort to clean nozzles when you do quickly want a good ticket printing or whatever. However, occasionally I still like printing photo quality images so decided to give an ink tank printer a try.I chose Epson because my previous Canon (Pixmia MFD) was so annoying. I chose an EcoTank because of previous issues reinking chipped cartridges and I chose the white Epson ET-4856 (even though it was a lot more expensive than the black one) because I felt it would blend in better in my lounge, it looked neat, compact and as pretty as you can expect a printer to look.Five months on, I am writing this review to let you know this is everything I hoped it would be and more.It does everything my Pixmia did on a greatly reduced footprint and it does it effortlessly without any fuss, every time. The print quality is fantastic and I haven't even switched to quiet mode because I quite like the gentle steam train chuffing noise as it matches the rapidity of the printing. It was very simple to set up using mobile phone app and to load the ink tanks. It is useful to visually see the ink remaining - I have used 25% of each colour after 382 colour sheets - 20 or so were A4 photos. The specs suggest I should get 6,000 sheets per tank (so 1,500 sheets for 25% of the tank) so I'm getting far less than this but I'm not too worried. At this rate I won't need to buy new colours for 15 months and then it will be £27.The black is about 1/3 used and as it comes with a spare, I won't need to buy another for 2 years. You can print within seconds of turning it on, it has been trouble free and I compared with any other ink-jet I have owned, super cheap to run and maintenance free. Hopefully no more infernal cleaning cycles and hearing the printer churning through tons of ink like with the Pixmia every time it turns on or you ask it to print anything.

Good Printer, but set up scanning not easy
Good printer, but took most of the day on online chats to find out how to scan a double-sided multi-page document. It turns out that its necessary to open a separate app, rather than the one for the printer.

Arrived safely
Epson printer....very efficient. Easy to set up, even though I have little computer knowledge or expertise. Also easily connected to WiFi si I can operate from my ipad without any difficulty. Lovely colour printing for my self made Christmas cards. I'm very happy with this machine! Not as expensive as I expected either.
