Welcome to the bright lights...
Like many, I'm on a budget, much as I enjoy my photography. You keep thinking: one day...Well, in the real world, you compromise. But carefully. I looked at products, and read the reviews, and eventually chanced my arm with this Neewer flash.I've bought and used a few Neewer items (lenses and stuff) and been perfectly happy. The quality has been good, and results very acceptable. So I'm more than happy to report that this flash lives up to my expectations, and then some! Build-quality is fine (the ratchet for tilt is maybe a bit graunchy, but it works!). I use a Canon EOS 300D (it was State of the Art when new!), but I cannot afford Canon Speedlights for it, and the built-in flash is limited. The Neewer TT520 has changed all that! It comes with it's own velvet drawstring bag for protection, and not only does the tilt/swivel head enable me to bounce flash wherever I want, achieving the effects I want, I can use the flash as a slave, triggered by the camera built-in flash. Brilliant! Not only, but also - the 8 variable settings are impressive. Everything from soft fill-in to brilliant illumination (it impressed the hell out of a pro photographer at my camera club!), and 3 mode settings for on- or off-camera triggering. While lacking the full ETTL control of more expensive kit, you won't really notice the difference in practice. The stand supplied with the flash incorporates a screw-fit for a tripod, or alternatively will stand the flash on any flat surface. As long as the Neewer can 'see' your on-camera flash, it will be triggered in response. In addition, 2 built-in features (a diffuser and a reflector to help reduce red-eye) are a distinct bonus.Like the man who liked the razor so much he bought the company (I wish!), I'm already planning to buy a second Neewer TT520. It really is going to be that useful. To put it in perspective, I did a lot of looking and thinking before making this purchase. There are other products in the same price-range claiming similar performance, but there was always that element of disappointment to them, according to either the specification or the user reviews. I've had this Neewer TT520 just over a month, and I love it. Furthermore, it enabled me to photograph a local, very popular choir, and provide them with an up-dated image for their website. I'm chuffed about that!Keep in mind that, like all kit of this kind, it's a battery-guzzler, and use re-chargeables as I do, and you won't be disappointed.Update: Nearly 2 years on, upgraded to a nearly-new Canon 650D, and just added a third flash to my collection of these guns. Cannot understand the gripes of those who complain about the lack of ETTL. Go spend £400 if you want bells and whistles! Never had a problem with any of these guns. I use rechargeable batteries so I don't run out of power, and the 3 guns now gives me a cracking portrait-lighting set-up. Yes, it's budget kit, but it works! Oh - and the ratchet on the tilt mechanism is still graunchy, but so what? It still works on the earlier flash-guns: it hasn't worn out and I doubt it will. To coin a phrase: Great Guns!

Brilliant product at amazing price and with many extras thrown in. Buy it! See my comments about spare battery.
I have just purchased this so this is very much first impressions. The deal is fantastic - a very good flash with several extras thrown in. Decent guide number though I haven't tested it. The Li-Ion batteries are great - I am tired of carrying a bag full full of rechargeable AA with a charger every time I travel. These cells are quite light and will hopefully keep their charge as expected from Li-Ion. Rated for over 600 flashes per battery (supplied with two), so should last most situations. The charger lights up like heathrow but hey, I am a nerd and like bling. Does show charge status clearly. Canon could learn from them. And this is a fraction of a similar canon flash. All in all, probably the best buy in the market.24/07/2017: I have been using this for a while and am pleased, overall with the product. However, one of the batteries (came with a spare failed and I could not get a replacement. Neewer did not have any and there were unable to direct me to another supplier. I kept looking and found that the battery for another make is identical and it works on the Neewer. Available from Amazon : Godox VB-18 DC 11.1V 2000mAh 22Wh Li-ion Battery For VING V850 Flash.

Cheap and useful light
A good product for the cost. Of course, it's not ETTL, nor does it possess high speed sync or 2nd curtain flash, but it gives a relatively good light for indoors use (and possibly on outdoors, but did not try yet). It is my second flash (I had the 430EX-II) and it serves very well that purpose as a supporting unit to complement my amateur strobist experiments. In manual mode you can use it attached to the body, but this may require trials before obtaining the right illumination. Not for non-experienced users who can't afford missing a shot at first attempt. But in the wireless slave modes (S1 and S2, especially the latter) the unit is very useful and operative. It answers very well (S2) to master's commands (even the 7D pop-up, nice!) and you can do interesting "lightening" experiments. Of course, you still need to adjust manually the intensity, but that is an occasion to try new things; after all, photography is also that! Shows very good times of recycle, and it works very well with rechargeable batteries. The TT560 variant is a bit more powerful, but has the very same functionalities, so advantages are arguable for the price increase. Of the same range of prices and functionalities one can also consider the YN460-II, but it's slightly more expensive. The manufacturing materials are very good, and the device is pretty well sized (even slightly bigger that the 430EX). One small incident occurred when I pulled out the integrated white reflector (yes, it has one) and pushed it back inside and then it took some efforts to pull it out again... beware on that operation: when pushing back that white reflector, keep it attached to the light diffuser plate so they both move together in and out. It's a minor detail, but you can avoid some nuisances with this care. If I had money, I would by multiple ETTL flashes, but I realised that perhaps one ETTL flash is enough (preferably one with master capabilities) and then several "manual" flashes as this one can do a fine job for more complex lighting works. If this is your set up, and you are starting your amateur strbist "carreer", I definitely recommend this flash in one or more units.

Klasse
