Gazelles, Baby Steps & 37 Other Things: Dave Ramsey Taught Me About Debt
S**)
Buster Financial principles packaged for Millenials Dave and Jon, what a Combo!!!!
So, my wife and I have been Dave Ramsey fans for about 10 years. We love all of the advice, and we follow it, almost to the letter. She is an amazingly thrifty financial manager. I am cheap. But I am instantly sucked into "cool" stuff, but can never pull the trigger and actually spent the cash. So, she balances me out and reminds me that we actually have money to spend, at least spend some of it.The only thing about DR and financial planning that concerns me is that there are not more people my age (28) that care about making wise financial decisions. They are sucked into cool (and anything with an 'i' at the front of the name) and are not afraid to pull the trigger. Dave's principles are excellent and biblical and foster responsibility and good work ethic, but Dave (no offense Dave, cuz I love you man!) does not appeal to Millenials. It's all about the gratification, baby! (Jon, htat was for you, although gratification has way more syllables than Benjamins!)Keep reading.......We have been fans of Jon Acuff for a while, too. We found SCL a little before building the schools in Vietnam. I am a worship leader and really appreciated the metro-sexual worship leader SCL post. Jon, you have an amazing way of connecting with our generation. It's like you embody Greg House, but without sexual inuendo and cussing. Your cynicism and sarcasm that borders irreverant is so appealing to us 20-somethings. You call it like you see it. Thank you for doing that.Dave, you do, too. Now, imagine you could take the greatest message ever and package it for the largest generation ever.... It would be like sharing the Gospel, with the soundtrack from Top Gun playing in the background! That is what you have when you combine Dave and Jon.This combo is unstoppable! Jon, your wit and amazing writing ability combined with Dave's simplified financial planning and practical application of these principles makes for a great team! All that being said, I really like the book.

Not my favorite Jon Acuff book
I've read all the Dave Ramsey stuff and facilitated FPU. This was cute but didn't add to my knowledge of the topic and wasn't that funny. Sorry! "Finish" and "Soundtracks" are amazing. Was trying to get more of that and didn't. "Quitter" just arrived, so that'll be next.

Not exactly what I was expecting.
Being a Dave Ramsey follower, I was hoping for a little more insight into Dave's realm of wisdom. Jon Acuff is a great writer, with humor and wit. I did laugh many times reading this book, but it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. It was more of a funny ride through Dave Ramsey's plan to success. A lot of it is far fetched, and sometimes silly, but if you are looking to read something light-hearted and a little silly, this would be a great book. Just don't expect a Dave Ramsey type of book.

One of the best books I've read.
This was one of the most humours books I have read. This is not a book that will actually teach you the principles of Financial Peace, and it is not intended to do so. John Acuff provides a unique and humours perspective on Dave Ramsey's program and what he has learned through the process. I sat down and read the book cover to cover in one sitting - I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book, and is toward the top of the list of my favorite books.

Nothing new or exciting here
Well, I'm a huge Dave Ramsey fan. I've seen a few things from Jon Acuff and thought this might be a simple way to see if I'd like to read more of his work, it's a very small book. And it's based on his experiences working the Dave Ramsey program. It took me almost a year to finish this book, just kept setting it aside in favor of something else and reading a little here and there until I finally finished it. Gets three stars because I did finish it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this book. Read Dave's books instead.I won't go out and try to get another Jon Acuff book based on this. It's ok at best. Small chapters relating to his personal experiences working the Dave Ramsey program, nothing really new or exciting here.

Just not that funny
While I enjoyed Jon Acuff's writing in Stuff Christians Like, this one just didn't hit the mark for me.I'm a huge Dave Ramsey fan and listen to his radio show at least a few times per week, so it's not that I missed the jokes. In fact, part of the issue may be that I've been a Ramsey fan for too long. Acuff actually ruins the humor of a lot of his jokes by overexplaining the principle behind the joke. So in a two-page column, he'd spend half the text space saying "since Dave says this" before he got to the joke. So a lot of the book read like an oversimplified primer to Dave Ramsey's philosophy. Then, the jokes themselves weren't so funny that they made it worth reading through all the slow buildup. Some of them had a funny concept at the core but weren't worded for maximum impact, while others just didn't seem to be attempting humor at all. I only laughed out loud once during the entire book, which is unusual for me. Usually I am rolling while reading a humorous book and keep wanting to share bits with friends. It could just be me, but I was seriously disappointed in this and really wish I could have my money back. I'll give it two stars just because at the core, there are some clever thoughts in here. They were just poorly executed and read as though the book was rushed to print.

Great gift for Ramsey fans!
My dad loves all things Ramsey, so he already has the books and DVDs. I gave him this book on his birthday to get him a little Ramsey fix and maybe some laughs. He loved it. (And I enjoyed it when I borrowed it from him!) It's a great way to inject some humor in your path to financial peace.
