I bought mine in september of last year (2018) The use by date on bottom of mine was January 2021. Hope this helps.

Q: Does this sting on application?

Yes it does but almost immediately it’s numb and it’s very good at eradicating any sore pain in your mouth or throat. I keep one on hand as I suffer from a lot of mouth and throat infections. This is amazing stuff usually works over night for a huge improvement in symptoms by next day. I only use the green box as the other flavours are awful.
