Does what it says on the tin
Having struggled with a cheap, light weight plasticy "smart" charger from a well known high street chain that never seemed to do it's job, when I found my car battery flat in cold weather last weekend (due to lack of use) I decided to research a new charger. Came across this one and based on the existing reviews placed an order with first class delivery on Sunday evening. The package arrived Tuesday lunchtime and I was immediately impressed by the weight before I even opened it. Once opened I was very impressed with the build quality - very strong case work, good chuncky switches, quality cables etc. The instuctions were brief, but told me everything I needed to know in plain terms - this is a simple device that anyone should be able to use with confidence. It even included advice on how to top up battery fluid levels which reminded me of my childhood and my Dad's battles to keep the Austin running in the winter! (Most car batteries are maintenance free these days and the instructions make this clear)I put the battery on charge at 7 in the evening and the amp-meter immediately sprung into life. When I checked at 11 it had started to fall (as predicted by the manual) and when I checked it at 7 in the morning it was on trickle charge and when I reconnected the battery the car started first time. This unit is recommended for inside use only, so if you don't have a garage or car port, then you will either have to completely remove the battery from the car (as opposed to simply disconnecting the terminals) or keep a watch on the weather.Overall, this is a simple but very sturdy charger that inspires confidence that it will do what it is meant to do with no fuss and for many years to come. Definitely worth the asking price and I would recommend.

Purchased to replace a previous Amazon purchase that failed and was returned.
This is a substantial unit, the mains and battery leads have a good length, it can cope with 12 or 24v batteries, has a boost facility for quicker charging and a proper illuminated on/off switch.Protected by 20a and 2a fuses, plus the normal plug one.Recommended.

Useful.
Our van battery was dying but this charger helped loads. Eventually we still needed a new battery but the charger will still come in useful particularly during the winter months.

Solid build and really does the job
So this is a fast charger compared to a friends that says it charges at 5amps. Now this says 12amps, but only if the battery you are charging will take that amount of current. Most car batteries will charge at 5-6 amps and take less current as they get full. 24v batteries will do 24v at 5-6 amps giving the 12amps at 12v =144watts an hour.this charged a 74Ah battery from 11.4v to 12.8 in 4 hours. The boost function adds about 20% more current. do not use boost when battery is near full.So would I recommend this charge?, YES it is solid and heavy and once the needle s under 1/2 amp i would say you need no more juice and battery is full. Please Note:- do not think a bigger amp charger will charge faster, it will not. The battery takes 5 amps from what is there not take all so if you supply 1000amps it will only use 5-6amps and less as it gets full.So the main point is that a charger that is not straining to do 5 amps will be better and stay working longer. so 12a max is a good place for a car charger. Also a battery that measures around 11.4v is about 15% 20% full, batteries charge at about 22% an hour if there is enough current. Here is another example, 11.4 to 12v will take 30 minutes or less, but the higher the voltage goes, the longer it takes to a full charge.hope this helps you understand the amp gauge. This is worth every penny.thanksDez

Solid workshop battery charger.
This great workhorse of a battery charger arrived on time for £13 less then Screwfix were offering. Charges 30ah to 180ah, 12v and 24v batteries. I was very happy with the deal, product and service.

Robust and well made
Many many moons ago my father purchased a simple square metal battery charger. Consisting of a couple of lights and a needle indicator, he’s had this for decades. Over the last decade I’ve managed to get through a plethora of technically more advanced, curvaceous plastic, expensive, but ultimately less reliable chargers. Then I found this. It reminds me of the old chargers of yesteryear, metal and robust. The mains cord could be a little longer, but otherwise this appears to be a top charger and hopefully it’s as reliable as the model my father is still using. It works very well.

It's a very nice charger works well
It's a very nice charger works well, neat and good quality build, the only thing l would like to see is 2 separate outlets one for 12v and one for 24v because the switch could be accidentally switched to 24v when charging at 12v and visa versa may be there may be some protection built into the charger, l don't know. It's nice to see it come with spare fuses. All in all l like it. My charger on boost charged at 6 amp on a partly flat battery and at 2 amp on minimum on the same battery, nice easy to read amp meter fuses easy get at able front panel mounted and good strong crocodile clips and cable.
