Intel Core i5-8400 Retail - (1151/Hex Core/2.80GHz/9MB/Coffee Lake/65W/Graphics)

Great CPU overall, six cores with an all core boost clock of 3.8 GHz makes it an amazing chip for more affordable gaming even with a more high end graphics card. I have it paired with a GTX 1070 for max. settings, 75Hz gaming at 1080p and this CPU handles it very well, reaching basically 100% GPU usage in most games (other than GTA V). The only problem so far is that in certain games, such as The Witcher 3, there is a fair bit of stuttering, although I'm almost certain that is down to the fact that I'm running a single 8GB stick of DDR4 memory, which I plan to add another stick to very soon to run in dual channel mode to reduce the CPU usage and stuttering as well as increase my FPS. The only other minor problem that I have had is with the stock cooler that Intel supplies, the problem that I have with it isn't with performance or noise, but with aesthetics, in my opinion it just doesn't look very nice in a windowed case which is why I replaced it with a Hyper 212X from Cooler Master, not only making my system look a lot nicer, but also dropping thermals whilst gaming by about 10C (roughly 65 to 55C). other than these two easily remedied problems that weren't even caused by the CPU itself, it is almost perfect and once I have upgraded to dual channel memory I think it will be even better delivering a smooth gaming experience even when paired with a GPU such as the GTX 1070.

I chose the core i5-8400 for my gaming PC, as it was a mid-range processor, and I wasn't planning on doing any overclocking for my build (I'm a first time builder, so I don't want to get into overclocking just yet). Thermal paste was already applied to the bottom of the supplied CPU fan, and installation instructions were very easy to follow. So far I have had no issues, and my PC is working very well.

I have not used this chip yet but was so frustrated to get it after 3 month that I could not resist to leave a comment now. Amazon is a joke. The price go up and down by 300%. I had to use the 3rd party site to monitor the prices and buy it when it was reasonably cheap. A rich company who has put millions of business out of business is play game with people's hard earned income. God knows why one person needs so much money. sickness I guess.The first thing I noticed was the box. Suppose to protect this tiny chip which is the most expensive and important part of the computer. Yet it was placed at the top of the box with a plastic cover but the cheap 50p cooler was well protected under it. It is probably designed by god, like he placed the testicle outside the box in a vulnerable position. Really stupid idea.After a lot of research I chose to get a i5-8400 because it has enough cores (6) and has a 2.8 GHz base clock speed. Do not be fooled by the low Hz as it is deliberately set low to make 8600K good. If the processor does not need the speed it is better to stay low because the CPU consumes the most energy. In fact I do not put the heater on during winter and just use my PC to keep the room warm. I used the laptop only for couple of day and my room was freezing. The Hz can go up to 3.9 on a single core (if you have a good cooling) which is near 8600K at 4.3Hz.I do not play games but I am a software engineer and write programmes so I need a good CPU. This is to replace my Intel Core Due which is 1.8Hz maxes to 2.8Hz. Since you cannot OC this you do not need to go for high end motherboard such as 300 series. I got a 370 MB because it has connections and other feathers I liked.It came with a fan you can find a kinder egg so I invested in a good cooling system.

The I5 8400 is a perfect CPU for gaming. Packing speeds of 2.80 GHz speed and up to 4.00 GHz (Turbo boost), you cannot go wrong here. Its brilliant for high end titles and with its 6 cores it is sure to be future proof and sustain you for gaming for the next years.It is only slightly less powerful than an I7 7700K but is £100 cheaper. What else could you ask for? As a proud gamer I highly recommend it!

This as at May 2018 is probably the best value to performance processor in the new 8th generation range. It happily plays Farcry 5 in ultra mode on my PC and it also came with a stock heatsink and fan. I chose to use a higher quality copper heatsink and a very large, quiet fan for cooling rather than using the stock items, but it is nice to have them included as some people prefer the basic, albeit noisy convenience of stock.I can honestly say that in my system this runs extremely cool, and even after having played intensive games for over an hour the heatsink was still cool as I tested my system by leaving the side panel off so I could feel any heat absorbed into the heatsink.I always by Intel processors rather than AMD, but that is just my preference.

Easy to install. Comes with cooler which is good to keep, but can get aftermarket one of you wish. Good value but better on the market these days.

Really good cpu for gaming big upgrade over my i3 6100. Paired with my 1060 6gb it's a beast runs 1080p at ultra settings 60fps. However, the stock cooler you get is a look annoying and loud. It buzzes and has done my head in so much over the past few days that I've ordered a new cooler. Got mine at 170 pound so was a steal.

I used this with a Gigabyte H31M S2H motherboard in a PC that I put together. It was easy to fit, however I did practice by installing a similar cpu on an older motherboard. The method was the same and easy to do. Watching Carey Holzman's Youtube videos helped. I have no interest in gaming so I cannot help with stars for gaming. The supplied fan was fairly quiet - no doubt, spending loadsa cash on a better fan would help, but the one supplied was OK for me and was easy to fit.
