Works better than models with rechargeable battery.
I got this for my grandson who has other brio engines and a lot of track. His existing engines were rechargeable with USB. The problem is that these batteries lose power after a lot of use and cannot pull anything. The battery is not replaceable. The cheaper train I purchased used an ordinary replaceable battery and thus will give much longer life and is good value.

Great sturdy brio train
Great battery operated brio train. Already had one of these (was husband's from when he was little so quite old) so bought another. They go forward or backward and have a little light on the front. Great for wooden tracks. Would defo recommend this.

Lovely little train but a bit flimsy
I am slightly disappointed in the quality of this engine, although it does look very smart. The axle on the back wheels (the ones that drive it) is quite thin, and the wheels then bend when the train is dropped (which happens quite a lot when you have a youngster playing with it). I would expect the axle to be a bit more robust. My children love the light at the front, which glows quite dimly but still looks really cool, and the train is quite powerful - we've towed about 4 carriages up and down a brio slope/hill track without any trouble. With a really decent AAA battery, it lasts about 4 hours full run-time, so be prepared to use up quite a few. The switch on the top is quite flimsy and is quite easy to switch on by mistake (either forwards or reverse), so you need to make sure it doesn't go in the train/track box after playtime, but just keep it separate. If it weren't for the switch and the axle, I would give it 5 stars.

great little train
A great little train, my two year old loves it. It's really strong and can chug up quite a gradient. Only complaint is that it gets through batteries very quickly. Really pleased with it, hours of fun.

Eats batteries, runs slowly
Super slow, cannot pull carriages and a battery lasts for about an hour of play. After going through 5 or 6 batteries in the last two weeks since we gave it to our son for his 3rd birthday we’ve given up on it and bought a Hape one that runs beautifully.

Very slow and drains batteries quickly!
This train runs very slowly, forwards or backwards, whether or not it is pulling carriages. It can pull seven or eight carriages, but struggles to go up hill with more than 4 carriages. It takes a single AAA battery, but will drain a fully charged battery in just an hour or two. The train is weighty and looks nice, the back wheel is rubberised for grip. It’s probably ideal for a child older than 3, as a younger child may not understand that the train is designed to run itself, not intended for manual pushing / pulling. For a tenner, I guess I got what I expected, but the battery time is very poor.

Great little train providing hours of fun
We already have one of these trains and this one is much more powerful. It’s battery has also lasted really well. I imagine it will fade with use but very pleased with it. Arrived quickly too. Would recommend.
