Nay-sayers beware
This book is great! It is not tied to the games and the characters, HOWEVER, it is a great read. Who says the lands in the games are the only lands in the world of Dark Souls? Be open minded and imagine that the world of Dark Souls is more than a couple kingdoms. There's an entire world here and this book takes place somewhere lost within it.

Excellent story, well written, tenuously related to Dark Souls
I loved the book, the characters, and story. It held my attention and I truly could not put it down. Though, be warned, the only true relation it has with the Dark Souls universe is that there is an Undead Curse, and the protagonist can absorb the souls of his slain enemies. The setting, characters, and everything else are unrelated to anything seen in the games. There is no mention of Gwyn, or any of the Lords, not of Lordran or any other land in the games. I would recommend this book, highly even, but know it will not relate much to the series gamers know and love.

The feel was consistent with the DS universe
I was not sure what to expect from a written dark souls story, however I thoroughly enjoyed this. There was strong character development and a sense of place that fit well into the soulsbourne universe. The writing was really effective and story was paced well.
