Egg Timer - Colour Changing Kitchen Gadget for Boiling & Cooking Eggs Perfectly

Hope this one will last
We've had several of these brilliant egg timers now. And we found them very helpful. The first, probably from a different brand/ manufacturer simply split apart after around 200 egg cooking sessions. I would say that was still good value for money given the small purchase price. Then we bought replacement ones from a high-street discounted, however they seemed less accurate and having a white / yellow colouring scheme makes it very hard to distinguish the right cooking time in a pot of boiling water. As such, we ended up with this slightly more expensive one, that has good reviews. So let's hope it lasts as long as the first one. Will post an update if not.

Bad fumes - beware!
Smells bad when heated in water. The fumes were bad. Tried twice in case it was better the next time. Then threw away.I’ve bought from Lakeland previously several times with no issues - I was just being lazy and saving a trip to the shop. But ended up going back to Lakeland and bought another one - a bit more expensive but works well and doesn’t smell bad! This model isn’t from Lakeland and I can’t believe it’s safe….!

So eggcited!
This gadget is solely responsible for the fact my dad can now boil eggs! This is his first cookery ever at the age of 80 as he is a diehard non-cook. The only thing was - first time we used it there was a funny taste to the eggs as I think the product has some kind of chemical or something on it that comes off when you first use it. This put my mum off and so it sat in the drawer until desperation meant we tried it again months later and lo - whatever it was had worn off and no funny taste! Soft is about right for a runny egg but medium is medium hard which I hadn't grasped.. you won't get a runny middle with medium setting so we use soft or just past soft for dippy eggs. Also.. once the line gets to soft it starts moving very fast so keep an eye on it. This is the best way to boil an egg that I've found!

Totally useless!!
First time I used the timer I put it in cold water in a pan with two eggs and turned on the heat. By the time the water boiled, the top of the timer had clouded over making it impossible to see the calibrations. I then had to guess the timing before retrieving the eggs. Totally useless. No amount of post-egg attention and rubbing could remedy the problem. Binned it. Back to electronic timer!

Best way to cook eggs
I first discovered this device about thirty years ago, when my mother sent me one. It's the best way to cook eggs. Unfortunately, they don't last forever, and you'll need to replace it every few years; they get all cloudy inside. But this is cheap enough that you can replace it as needed without too much pain.

Damaged after 1st use
Returned after 1st use. There was visible white damage at base, and some blurring around the interior of the display area.My previous version (original ?)of this design lasted for years before the 2 parts started to seperate

Great product
i have been fan of this gadget. Th last one i bought 5 years ago from a pound shop and found interesting how it helps to cook the eggs as per your like. As it was broken after 5 years of satisfactory use, i ordered same from amazon. I must say its a great little product.Pros:-Small as the size of a medium egg-Does what it is suppose to do-not expensiveCons (minor)-The color fades over years (It doesn't matter - don't let this effect your decision to purchase it)

New Appearance
I purchased this to replace a colour changing egg timer I had bought 3 years ago and lost. It was supposed to be a repeat of the previous Amazon order. The product has changed. Where there used to be a solid sharp black area to indicate the stage of cooking there is now a fuzzy yellow colour change. No where near as accurate or easy to use. A disappointment !!
