Makita P-79142 Screwdriver and Ratchet Set (12-Piece)

I love this. I have a new carbon road bike and this can do every adjustment (not all for servicing, it doesn't have chain tools etc). As a general purpose bit driver, it keeps everything in one place. Really neat and clips on to a belt nicely. It has all the bits I need and they are colour coded. The bit holder has an effective ratchet and it is really small. Some may not like that, but I do for carbon frames. It means I don't put too much force on the frame. I use this to set up then do a final check with the torque wrench.For round the house it is absolutely brilliant as a screwdriver. So quick and you get a lot of leverage from that small driver if you want to. The case is a nice design but would be so much better they used better plastic or aluminium. If the holder was ally I would happily pay £25 for it.Took ages to arrive, but worth it.UPDATE My clip has now broken and its useless without it. There is a cheap fix, which I think is better than the original design. Just super glue a small (6mm x 3mm) Neodymium magnet on the holder and it holds it perfectly. I added 2 to hang on a metal shelf. Holds the ratchet really well and makes it useable again. (SEE PICS)

I'll start of by saying I tried a different brand first and was very disappointed by the build quality, in the end it went in the bin. But! for a very similar price I gave this ratchet a punt and was pleasantly pleased with the build quality and presentation. I needed a compact ratchet for an engineering job and this hit all the criteria small compact and it feels good in the hand I will recommend this item to a friend. I have put a 20p in the photos fo scale.

Well it arrived broken, like so many others, and this is not acceptable and so this drops a star. However it is in every other way a well designed and well made compact bit of kit. It does all it promises and I’m looking forward to using it. If a new version is ever planned I would expect to see a more durable clip or alternative solution to positioning the ratchet. Also it would be good if there was a socket for a bit at the end of the ratchet handle as it would make a very convenient way of driving screws that don’t need much torque. The whole thing could also be packaged even more compactly, though it’s not a bad size. Overall excellent with a terrible clip.

Product is good just that the plastic holder is a bit flimsy, broke in transit. Seller offered refund but it meant me going to the post office to return thereby diminishing home shopping.

This item is a must, I have used this countless times, it’s faultless & so handy.Would highly recommend.

I ordered this from Amazon, the actual tools are well made. However the plastic holder that keeps them all together was snapped off. As I was happy with the tool itself I arranged to return it for a replacement. The replacement arrived and was also damaged. The same clip that holds the ratchet to the holder was also snapped off on the replacement. I have noted from one of the other users who provided feedback that they had the same problem

I purchased this set as one of my work colleagues has the same set and I was impressed with how easy it made our job. The kit has all of the small bits required my only downside was that the small plastic clip that holds the ratchet in place broke within a couple of months, I now use a small piece of velcro tape that I wrap around the kit , works a treat, plus as being a Makita it will last quite some time so great value and worth the money spent.
