I bought this book to go with the hairy bikers deep fill pie maker. I love pies of every description so long as they don't contain kidney. This book is beautifully presented and well worth the money spent on it. There are pies of every description, not all have pastry tops and not all are of the savoury variety. I don't mind that, I didn't expect them to be. Having read right through from cover to cover I can tell you there is just a very small handful I know I will never make simply because I either don't like some of the ingredients or they contain things like venison or oysters. There are many, many recipes that don't have pastry lids but can be very easily adapted for me to make in my pie maker machine. For instance, curry pasties will become pies and so will several others. I rarely have pies as a main meal simply because I only know how to make the fillings for just a few good ones, for example, chicken fillings have always escaped me, mine are just simply C**P, it doesn't matter how hard I try I just can't make them to taste more-ish. This book has opened up a whole new world for me, well, for once I might be able to make a decent chicken pie, now that really will be something new. There are so many recipes that sound absolutely delicious and I can't wait to get started especially as I now have their deep fill pie maker. Only a couple of gripes, the paper sleeve cover was torn in two places but underneath was the shiny hard cover that was completely undamaged so I soon got over that, and the other gripe is there wasn't a picture for every single recipe, the pics there are showed me all I needed to see though and I'm trusting all the recipes that didn't have a picture will turn out looking just as yummy and good as those recipes that did. Highly recommend this book, just waiting for the weekend so I can get stuck in making up loads of pies to freeze for when I want something quick and to hand. Instead of snacking on sweets, biscuits and cakes in the evenings, I'll be snacking on pies, I'm not sure which is the healthier choice LOL

Already taken 4 recipes from this book and all were top draw, though I am a very good cook. However recipes are well mapped and easy to follow, more to the point they taste great.

I bought this book a few months ago and have tried a few of the recipes within. As a novice piemaker I've found the step by step instructions clear and easy to follow. There is a good selection of pies to choose from and all those that I've tried have turned out delicious. There are only a couple of points that detract from the book, these being 1) I find that measurements/quantity for the pastry in each recipe tend to be on the light/small side such that I often find that I don't have quite enough pastry to comfortably make the stated number of servings or pie size. I would therefore recommend upping the quantity a little when making the pastry and 2) its recommended in the book to use only the size of pie dish stated which I think is a bit rigid. All in all a great book with great recipes and well worth buying.

Yep one for every occasion

I have done Hairy Bikers recipe's before and I find they work well. This book is a bit different for me but it is very varied and lots of yummy pies. I have not made pork pies since school but I am going to have a go at these moulded around dumpy jam jars. The creamy chicken, ham and leek pie was really straightforward and very good. Their chatty relaxed anecdotal style makes me smile. Are some of the recipe's really pies probably not but then the crumbles, suet puddings and cobblers look great recipes and the hints are really practical e.g. keep back pastry to patch up any cracks and how not to stretch your pastry to avoid shrinkage! I also like the fact that they include pastry recipes and things to go with the pies including custard, vegetables, gravies and sauces. Some of the transcriptions to kindle are odd I opened spicy bean hot pot and under the title it gives the fish pie introduction again. What am I missing and does it serve 6 or is this a mistake? This and seeing the photos in grey and white is frustrating. I wish I had bought the book not a kindle copy but well done HB's these ones a keeper and will be done over and over again. Caroline

I purchased this to help me make pies (of course) and improve my baking/cooking skills. I'm new to cooking properly and wanted a visually helpful, clear cooking book that was easy to follow and uncomplicated. This book delivered.The recipes are all really great and include (For the novice like me) a great array of classics and lots of further useful ideas and side dishes to enhance the pie of choice! The book has lots of lovely pictures which also helps visualise what I was aiming for!!I especially liked the area at the back where it suggested tools for the job and explained how to make the pastry in detail - with lots of hints and tips. This was really useful!The narrative was nice too and if you have seen the to show, you can get a real sense of personality and enthusiasm for each recipe within the pages.I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. For a very good cook, there maybe a wish for something more complicated? But for me, the ease and outline of the recipes and clear instructions make it a winner!Let's hope I can make the 'Perfect Pie' now!

Ma l'ho sfogliato ed ho visto ricette insuperabili,e in effetti l' avevo cercato dopo aver provato una loro ricetta di torte salate considerata dalla Food blogger "La.".Torta salata migliore in assoluto! Roasted vegetables Tart..e assaggiata..una favola! Per cui libro consigliatissimo

Wanted to treat myself to a high quality cookbook so I chose this one. Considering the price I'd expect higher standards when it comes to shipping..Content is gorgeous though. But Amazon, oh Amazon...

Ein wunderbares Buch von wunderbaren Köchen! Selbst das Blättern macht Spaß, da die Rezepte mit einer guten Prise Humor geschrieben sind. Man bekommt gleich Appetit auf eigentlich alle Rezepte! Die, die wir bereits nachgebacken haben, waren ein voller Erfolg - sowohl optisch wie kulinarisch! Ein Volltreffer - ich kann dieses Buch uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen!!!!!
