Amazing Pen; Great Alternative to the Kakuno
This pen is super light given its plastic construction, but it doesn't feel brittle so I'll just have to see how well it holds up in the long run. My first fountain pen was the Pilot Kakuno, but I wanted something that looked a bit more mature and has a shape better suited to me. Loved the feeling of writing with the Kakuno, but not-so much the tri-grip thing they have going on, so I did some research and found out that the Pilot Explorer (which is basically the same thing as the LIGHTIVE - the pen I'm reviewing now) uses the same nib.Something else to note; the Explorer, while effectively being the same pen, does come with a case and the squeeze converter. This model just comes in a box with a black cartridge, which is fine with me.I put aside the black cartridge and used a CON-70 converter that I purchased separately to fill the pen with some Iroshizuku ink. Writes as beautifully as the Kakuno, while also feeling much more comfortable in my hands and more pleasing to the eye. I plan to use this as my everyday carry pen, and the price won't make me shed tears if ever happen to lose or damage it. Hopefully that never happens, of course. Not much else to say. Pilot has always been a very solid maker of pens, and this is just another one of their solidly built offerings.

Great pen
I really like this pen. The red color has a subtle metallic sparkle that I wasn't expecting from the picture, which is really nice. It writes beautifully, especially for the price, but the best part is the improved cap seal. I love my Metropolitan (same nib) but the ink in the converter/cartridge likes to evaporate and the nib dries out if I don't write with it regularly. This pen doesn't have that problem. The pen is light, but doesn't feel cheap, and the push cap has a similar satisfying feel to the Prera. As far as I know this pen is the same as the Explorer that is normally sold in the US, but has the better cap, so if you are considering the Explorer, get the Lightive instead. Also I've tried buying a couple other pens off Amazon and this is the first one that I didn't have to send back for a bad writing nib.

Very nice entry level pen, bonus pen included
I was looking for an entry level (i.e. not too expensive) fountain pen that would let me use prefilled ink cartridges to start but would be to move to converters and bottled ink later on if I wished. The Pilot Lightive fits the bill perfectly. It is a nice size, fits my hand better than the Metropolitan (the Metro is shorter and has a smaller grip), and allows for the larger CON-70 converter to be used. From online reviews the cap seals better than the similar Pilot Explorer, so that the ink will not dry out in the pen; in practice I have had no issue with the ink drying out in the pen. The writing with the Pilot Fine nib is not silky smooth, but is acceptable and I expect it to get a bit better over time as i wear the nib in a bit.The Lightive did not include the advertised Kanji sticker - but it did include a nice ballpoint pen with a Kanji "Love" symbol on it (see attached photo). I see no indication it is a Pilot pen (generic ink inside) but I like it. Thanks!

Quality writing experience at a very fair price.
As with everything Pilot - really smooth and reliable!

Another great Pilot fountain pen
I LOVE these pens! They're like the Pilot Kakuno pens but more sleek, sophisticated-looking, easy on the hand (round barrel as opposed to faceted), and unlike the Kakuno pens, the Lightive (Explorer) pens have a clip. They fit perfectly into my journal cover's (Moterm) pen holder. Also the pen can house the Pilot Con-70 (larger ink capacity) converter. I just wish the price was a little lower. The Lightive costs more than the Pilot Metropolitan (metal body).

Good pen for the price, definitely
My expectations were in the "we'll see" category when I ordered it, for the price point. I've used fountain pens running from cheap, garbage nib disposables to very expensive, so I didn't expect the quality of a Montblanc; but, I was very pleasantly surprised. Very surprised indeed. Very good ink flow, very light writing, much smoother than I anticipated. For the price, I think it's a great buy, very usable!

Another great Pilot pen.
It’s meant to be for casual/work use, outdoors and around town. It’s a great pen, typical for Pilot, who makes really good quality. It isn’t a “pretty” pen, and not intended to be, but it is “good looking” for what it is. I enjoy using it.

Better than Lamy
If you want something thinner than a European medium nib that companies like Lamy offers, this is it. Writes and draws extremely smooth and very comfortable to hold.
