I guess you would need to ask the Manufacturer that question direct. My granddaughter has used Crayola crayons of various lengths since she was able to hold one and make a mark on paper. She is now two and a half and uses them and loves them. Her father uses them alongside her too and he's 47! The shorter chubbier are best in my opinion for younger children as if the child presses too hard with the longer ones they can snap in the middle.
