Very, Very Impressive Unit...
After lots of research hunting for a compact 4G router for use in a motorhome being setup for a long duration trip, I bought this unit and was immediately impressed with the professional-grade build quality and the truly stunning feature set. I've had experience with lots of standard domestic grade WiFi routers from the usual manufacturers and thought that the RUT240 would be just more of the same. I found the RUT240 extremely easy to configure and keep on finding features that I had only seen before in very high end network products. You really do not need to be an expert User to get this product quickly connected; the setup wizard does a great job in guiding Users through the stages and within a couple of minutes, I was connected to the EE mobile network and getting emails. Then, if you want to finely tune the configuration, there are a wide range of options that are all very accessible and backed up with great documentation in the online wiki. Changing to another mobile network operator is really easy by just swapping the SIM in the externally accessible carrier and then running part of the setup wizard. Within minutes, I was connected to the Vodafone UK network. The RUT240 event and system logging support is excellent and can be a great help in resolving connectivity and other issues. One really neat feature is the digital Input/output port that I will use to connect to vehicle alarms/sensors etc., so that I can get an email/SMS if there is an issue with the vehicle when I am away.Happily, the quality of the documentation matches the professional quality of the product. This whole experience with the RUT240 has been exceptionally good and I would have no hesitation in buying more for other 4G router. applications.

Bought to replace 4GEE home route but was worse
Bought this with high expectations - I have been after an affordable router that offers features not available on the 4GEE home router (e.g. L2TP) to use items that don't work with CGNAT issues with UK mobile broadband. All set up but was only able to achieve speeds of c10meg when I'm used to getting 50+meg with the old EE router. Wifi signal range is also not as good as the EE router (router has to be upstairs for max signal strength). Tried with an external aerial which also didn't work.Pros: Small, easy to set up with all the features I was after.Cons: Poor wifi coverage and not as good as the bog standard 4GEE router.I persevered trying to make this work as I really wanted it to however... no joy. The hunt continues for a suitable router so I can use my Nest and Philips Hue!

Does not have carrier aggregation!
First device on the road to cutting the cord! It's been a long learning curve and I tripped.... Cat 4 routers do not have carrier aggregation so you're not able to use 4G+ and are stuck at 4G. This is not an issue if you're in a great signal area but for myself in Cornwall it has become an issue. That said I'm on a fairly dirty signal with better DL/UL speeds than my fixed BT pots / ADSL line. It's just not as stable without an antenna. All part of the learning process and I can't fault the RUT241 at all.Up and connected in under 4mins. Great wifi coverage through an ancient old Cornish house and to the garden, basement. Great support on the Teltonika website. Good fun walking around the property and grounds with it connected to a 20m 240v extension to play hunt the best cell tower!

Not for the Novice
Anyone who bought this for home applications or to serve as a primary home wifi hotspot bought the wrong thing. It's really meant as a failover route in commercial applications.Or, as in my case, to function as a form of robust portable connectivity.I use this to be able to travel to any location and deliver training on a VoIP Telephony solution. And for this it is perfect.Worth mentioning I am using this with an A&A fixed IP sim with no NATing.Admittedly getting up and running with this router was not straight forward. The FW was out of date and updating the unit almost bricked it.After the FW update the webGUI stopped functioning. It took a very long winded factory reset attempt, which didn't actually reset the router, to get the webGUI back. The SLL cert for remote HTTPS access is invalid in all Chromium based browsers I have tried this with.Couldn't even get in on Chrome. Safari let me progress beyond the warning. It's not the end of the world but is a little annoying. Might put my own cert on to resolve the issue eventually. All this said, the "new" webGUI after upgrading is much nicer and easy to navigate.Everything is reasonably easy to find and configure.LTE connectivity just worked without any need for configuration. The wifi isn't the greatest but this shouldn't really be used as your primary wifi hotspot. Just in emergencies or temporary use cases. So the wifi is just good enough for this. One other thing worth mentioning is SIPALG is enabled by default and the parameter to disable it isn't at all obvious. If you are using this to provide connectivity to any VoIP systems then you will want to disable SIPALG.The required parameter is called "Automatic Helper Assignment" and is found in the Network > Firewall > General section of the webGUI.Took me a while to figure that one out as this functionality is usually more obviously labelled.Beyond all these nuances, the router is doing a brilliant job. With this you're getting all the functionality of routers twice the price, in a unit that is a quarter of the size.Very pleased so far.Knocked one star off for the FW faff and invalid cert.Recommend for the right applications. Make sure you know what you need before you buy.
