Great device for creating holes
This is a very easy to use device. Simple screw it into the soil, and lift out excess soil to create a perfect hole. There are two small snags - one of which you will encouter whatever method you use. Obviously, it cannot cut through stones. So if if encouters a stone that's half in hole, but majority held by the surrounding soil, it won't go deeper; time for the hand trowel to remove the ofending stone, (or half house bricks in my case!)The other "problem" is that you need an 18" clearance to turn the top handle, so you cannot cut holes close to walls, ie at the end of a fence run.Other than that, it's a great device with a very strong

Still Going 50+ Holes
Still going strong after 50+ holes. Beware of trying to dig too deep too quickly. If the soil is sticky, then have a solid surface to hand to knock the auger against to dislodge the soil off the auger.

Pretty good!
Bought this despite mixed reviews. Yes it's cheap and cheerful but it does the job. We have clay soil and it cut through it really well. You have to take it easy frequently pulling it up so as not to drill it into the ground too far. When you hit a stone it's best to stop and pull it out manually rather than risk damaging the auger. I don't think it would work very well in rock hard ground or soft loamy soil. Overall it worked a treat and cut neat holes. Also to make life easier we used fast setting post concrete- get it from a DIY shop.

Great tool
Used it to create drainage holes in the garden, to do this with a spade would have been hard however using this it took no time at all. Well made and sturdy. Glad I brought it.

Excellent Fence Post Boring Tool!
Bought this for my hubby - and he has found it to be a very fast and an efficient way of digging holes to take any shape of fence post's. Saved a huge amount of time = 4.5 minute's to dig a 2ft deep hole which would normally a lot, lot longer - brilliant :) PLUS: This one has the fixed handle - so it does not become loose as no grub screw's to tighten - perfect!

Only good for light soil
Unfortunately this product has a very small weld at the leading edge, hence the first stone you may encounter will cause the weld to pull apart and the cutting edge wrap incorrectly to the wrong side of the pole.A simple fixing plate or longer weld would make this product more far more robust and hence useful for many more ground types.puzzlingly the weld at the top part of the pole is much longer and more robust which is not essential. Thus if you have soil with any clay or stones this product will have little use.

easy to handle probing tool
Arrived in good prompt service. Bought with incentive to post and amend my mothers fencing needed reforming in place damaged panels come across this tool ignoring mixed reviews to drill holes for posting.,but felt may be enahanced using anothrer implement like a trowl, seemingly strong handle as well heavy tool, besides there are better gadgets which could display finer, loosens soil, got the impression it performs more desirable when danpened soil ir soft surfaces as you may have to force on solid grounds unless you water the spots. Neat job i must admit eventually digs with a little perservence.
