It's about 3mm. Loads of room for a good sized chain or cord.

It's quite large, 2 - 3 mm. The cutter is quite heavy so needs a thick chain or cord. I attached mine to a keychain, the kind used for dog tags ( the linked silver balls )

Q: Does this work on very chunky wool?

I've only actually used this on double knitting wool, but should imagine it would work on chunky wool, as it is quite sharp. I bought it to take on a plane, so I could crochet on long flights and it has worked really well.

Q: Anyone use this shape for cutting cotton?

I use this cutter for cotton, linen, silk and many other threads and yarns. A very useful tool.
